kimber1911Facebook just blocked my America The. Beautiful Fireworks Video
Don’t really use Facebook but I have an account.
Nothing was on it until tonight.
We went to see the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra in the park with the following fireworks.
During the fireworks a recording of America the Beautiful was played.
Facebook message said I posted something that belongs to someone else.
Beautiful fireworks, 5th largest in the state.
I wanted to share.
This is crazy.

kimber1911Seems we’ve gotten a bit too legalistic if you can’t go to the park and film the fireworks without infringing on someone’s copyright.
America the Beautiful and God Bless America should be always in the public domain.

America the Beautiful and God Bless America should be always in the public domain.
That would be a great way to ensure that very few professional recordings of those songs ever get made again.

The first part and last part are true, but I'm not sure about the middle part. The music industry has been pushing the big tech companies very hard on copyrighted music appearing in videos and my understanding is that over the last year or two a lot of the big sites like Facebook and YouTube have implemented automatic systems to detect (and remove) the usage of copyrighted music, and the systems aren't perfect and tend to be somewhat overzealous.
There is just too much stuff posted to have actual human beings look at it all and make those decisions. YouTube averages something like 300 hours of video added per minute.

az4783054I get the impression that Facebook and Twitter are being weaponized by the liberals. And there's nothing that anyone can do about it but quit using them.

sjtillOur choir just had an early July 4th concert. As always, there is an announcement before the performance that no video or audio recording is allowed. I’d be inclined to believe that is the case with every professional orchestra performance, and it’s impossible to sort out copyrighted songs from non-copyrighted. I think the performance itself is often tacitly copyrighted, but I’m not familiar with the law in this area.

kimber1911Here it flagged it within about 20 seconds of posting it.
Obviously electronic monitoring by facebook.
I think it must flag every video that has music when first posted.
Later on it removed a portion of the sound from the video.
And specified it was Ray Charles singing which was copyrighted.
A recording of Ray Charles singing America the Beautiful was played as the fireworks began.
Also later on after specifying what the offense was, it gave me the option of restoring audio, if I had the proper copyright permission.
I don’t think in this instance it was related to being Patriotic, but at first that’s what I thought.
Pretty scary the shear amount of electronic surveillance now being utilized.
Think I will just leave my facebook page with the photo I took of the Orchestra with flag in the background and walk away from Facebook.
Can’t see that Facebook enhancing my life in any meaningful way.
