I have a honda 2000 that is more than 10 years old and it runs like crap now. I do not want to spend $200 to have the carb cleaned. Did that once already and it still runs like crap. So I saw the Yamaha 2200 was on sale for $600 wow. I thought that seemed like a great deal on a Japanese made Yamaha unit. But then googled where it is made to confirm it is made in Japan, nope made in china, doh. Not buying one.

You can get a new carb for $30 on Amazon.

When they sit have the non-ethanol fuel or 100 LL aviation fuel run into the carb.

I don't know which "honda 2000" you have but I have the EU2200I I converted it to run on LP. You lose a few percent (~5%) of output but you don't have to ever mess with carbs again.

Also, a standard LP tank is roughly equivalent to 4.5 gallons of gas, as compared to the < 1 gallon built in gas tank, which gets you way better run-times... The conversion kit is ~$300 though.

That carburetor shouldn't be difficult to remove and clean. Remove the jets and soak them in carb cleaner then floss them out with a fine strand of copper wire.

Yup, THIS right here! All the real motorcycle guys know this!

I'd go for the clean up the carb, it's just a few bolts and easy to do, drain the fuel, change the filter if it has one clean out the fuel line

Might want to spray some carb cleaner around the intake when it's running see if it changes idle, could have a vac leak causing the erratic running situation

OEM Honda Carb on Amazon $150 it's made in Thailand not Japan though....

Last time I had to do this was on a 2000 CB750 Nighthawk I bought used. The PO had let it set for I don't know how long w/o draining the bowls or tank. All I remember is the difficultly I had trying to get all 4 carburetors back on the intake manifold together. I just didn't have enough hands so I called a friend to come help.
Of all my motorcycles, SXS's, vehicles, and other stuff there are only 5 carburetors, 2 are on an old Airhead BMW, 1 on the generator, 1 on the chain saw, and one on the trimmer, and that's 5 too many! I love fuel injection.

I have a Stihl MS-250 chainsaw.
Also, a Stihl battery operated chainsaw with AK 30 batteries. MS-140C?
Since getting the battery saw, the gas saw just sits.
One day, I needed the MS-250, it wouldn't run.
I tried buying a gaskets/seals/diaphragm kit for the OEM carburetor.
No joy, the stamped ID numbers on the carb didn't match anything.
And just so it's clear, the original carb was made in China.
What to do... Order a kit from Amazon for $30. In the kit?
New carburetor.
New air filter.
New spark plug.
New fuel lines.
I replaced the OEM China carburetor with another China carburetor.
I didn't even need to adjust the hi/low speed jets.
The remaining parts went on the shelf.
In the future if needed, another China carburetor.

As an FYI, some honda OEM carbs are CHICOM.
I have a 20 yo lawn tractor with an HONDA GXV engine, this year it began running rough, pulled the carb to clean it. Made in China.

Thanks guys. it is a EU2000i inverter.

Without the vin it's hard to be accurate but this is listed several places for the EU20001i model units, but at $162, I'd buy a rebuild kit off Amazon replace all the gaskets, remove the fuel and replace with fresh non ethanol fuel.

Throw the carb in a sonic cleaner or if you don't have one put it in a pot of boiling water for 20 or 30 minutes. Blow out good with compressed air (if you have a compressor) or shake it a lot to get the water out.
When you put it back use a bit of starting fluid to start (with fresh gas).
Has worked about 95% of the times I have done it.
