Oh no that's not good. I put her in my prayers

Pennsylvania has "comparative negligence" laws and she is going to find that not wearing the seatbelt used against her by the other driver and his (or both his and her) insurance companies.

She should talk to an attorney as soon as possible.

My hope and prayers that she have full recovery.

So very glad to hear that she seems to be pretty good, all things taken into consideration.

Just a couple of thoughts for you to dwell on when you have time.

Here in UK, ROSPA, who monitor road safety UK-wide, found that that VAST majority of car/traffic/road accidents take place within THREE miles of your home.

And next, getting knocked sideways out of your vehicle because you were not wearing a seat belt can be fatal, even if you were not moving, providing the other vehicle was doing more than five miles an hour at impact. The joints between that big wobbly thing atop your neck and the rest of the spine is awfully fragile when made to move in any unplanned direction above just 5 MPH.

Ask any quadraplegic.

I am glad she is mostly okay.

My dad, at the end of his career, was in charge of safety and quality programs for a major oil company - the marketing and distribution end of the business, so that included lots of trucking.

He drilled it into our heads that you can't drive without wearing your seatbelt. He wasn't the sort who drilled things into your head in general, but on this, he was a nut.

So, I never am in a car without a belt on. I hope it never matters, but . . .

Glad to hear she is alive!

I watched a young guy lose his life several years ago at a gun show in Asheville. He was in a smaller car and T-boned in the drivers door by a full size pickup going about 50mph. He pulled out to go left on a 5 lane road and a car stopped to let him out in the right hand lane, but he didn't see the truck in the left lane also coming at him.

This caution also reminds me of the days my folks drove those "tanks" in the early to mid 50's that weren't factory equipped with seatbelts.

I can't even fathom how many lives have been saved since they were factory equipped.

I found out last night the police did confirm my sister had the green light and this other woman who nailed her came through a red light

As crazy as this sounds, I’m starting to wonder if her NOT having her seatbelt on actually saved her life. She had an older Toyota Corolla that did not have side curtain airbags, and I think she would have had a broken neck and killed if strapped in with that kind of force coming at her. Instead she took the hit and kept going, unfortunately it’s going to be a long road to recovery and she may never walk again or walk normally again.

Don't want to derail but I will say this about in-patient rehab. I was faced with that prospect of not walking again or normally after some brain surgery/stroke. It was difficult at first to comprehend that prospect but those amazing folks at Baptist Rehab put pieces of my life back together, slowly but eventually I re-learned to walk, get dressed, speak better, everything basically. After several months of rehab I was able to walk again without aids albeit I still have trouble with my gait, kinda like a duck walk. They patiently teach you to straighten your gait but many years later the duck walk returned.

I can't say enough great things about the rehab specialists and doctors, they basically pieced my life back together. But as mentioned, I continually focus on each day and thankful to be alive.

I said a prayer for her, and wish her the best in her recovery.

Thus far this year in Wyoming there have been 39 MV fatalities. 60% of the fatalities were not wearing a seat belt. Your sister had a momentary lapse that could’ve proved fatal. I’m stunned at how many people make a conscious, repeated decision NOT to buckle up.

Another FF/EMT with 20 years and I have worked plenty of fatal accidents. I never cut the belts off a dead person.
