Just found out that someone I know was involved in a shooting last night.
The woman who does my company's accounting had a thug force his way into her office last night while running from the police for theft at a Walmart next door. She put him down (but not out). This is a mid 50's woman facing down a 24 year old thug. It really reaffirms to me that a gun is the great equalizer.

I'm praying that she'll be able to handle this OK. This is the first person I've known that has been involved in a shooting. It hits really close to home.

Thank God she was armed and had the will and ability to use it.

Good for her. She may have saved her own life, or the life of someone else the thug would have encountered down the road.

That's the better way to be involved in a shooting.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Saw that on the news.

Hope she is alright.

Reach out to her and tell her you know a gaggle of people who applaud her actions.

Criminal's name is Deondre Branch, 24. He's in critical condition.

Glad she was not injured in the process.

It will probably be easier for your friend to deal with if the thug survives.
While many of us are willing to take a life in order to survive most of hope we never have to do it.

Once upon a time when little LeCondrosophelia was talking to her old gandpa...

"Grandpa, everybody says when your were still young and limber and before you had your accident, you were a famous outlaw. Is that true?
"oh yea, true dat. I was fearsome in my prime."
"Well tell me a scary story about an adventure then."

"Well there was one night I was on a terrible rampage of crime and terror..."
"Like a pirate, you mean?"
"Zactly. I was earnin' for my po family that was all disadvantaged and shit."
"So you were taking from the rich to provide for the less fortunate with food and medicine."
"In a way, ya, I was shop liftin' ladies unmentionables form a Wally store..."
"What? Undies? Seriously?"
"Well all the store dicks and some po-lice started chasin' me..."
"So you fought them off single handed?"
"Well no, I ran to a big ol building I thought was all locked up so's I could hide out, but..."
"But you couldn't hide out because all the cops and loss-prevention caught you and ganged up on you, right?
"Um, no I ran into a office worker and..."
"And he ambushed you?
"Well sort of except it was a lady, a old lady like 50 somthin' & she was unreasonable and she shot me. She was a accountant I heard."
"Well, OK then have a nice day in the home, I'll see ya, not."

I read about this this morning

And on the way home I heard the news saying she had been named and that the guy tried to break into her office while she was working...

I wanna drive over and give her a back up cause I know the cops took her gun.

I do know that she's not at home and she definitely has other guns.

I don't get why they would release her name. A co-worker lives just a few houses down from her, I'm pretty sure his rifles are clean and ready tonight.

Because they are uncaring, unthinking vultures.

Just thinking the same thing reading the thread by SF member who's neighbor was murdered. The website story showed the address and Google earth image... you know, in case once the cops leave in a day or so, you might want to go break in and rob the place, you'll know just where it is.

Thank God she is in NC, up here she'd be more likely in custody, and the media demanding to know why an unarmed person would be shot.

Like when the funeral is scheduled?
That's what the scum around here were doing. Mad You could call the Sheriff's Posse to do a standby so your stuff was still there after the funeral.

Happened to my next door neighbor 25 years ago!

That's part of what makes me always think of this, it happens all the time.
