Winners Announced Pg3 - Please and thank you karma
Nov 14th will be my 19th anniversary on being a Sigforumite, I’ve also started a new role at work that is a growth opportunity, and I’m frankly overjoyed with the election results. In other words, it’s time for a karma.
This is the only place on the Internet that I call "home" and it's because of y'all. Before we get to the karma portion, it's appropriate to thank:
Para for providing this digital oasis for us. It's extremely generous to provide a forum free of charge with zero advertisements to offset costs.
Para and the mods for running it in the manner they do which has made Sigforum a very unique community.
The members as they've provided endless laughs, insight into almost every subject imaginable, shown unsurpassed generosity, and my home is full of items that y'all have recommended.
When I first joined the forum, I was impressed by Wally's please and thank you karma since those 3 words aren't used frequently enough in today's society. Therefore, 90% of the karmas I've offered have followed that format.
Here are the rules:
The Karma Picker (thanks Mark123) will choose the winners.
Your post must contain both the words “please” and "thank you" (thanks is acceptable). As long as it's polite, feel free to creatively use the words. In the past, people have been very creative and it made me smile and/or chuckle.
You must have an e-mail address in your profile or in your post.
You must have been a member on or before 11/5/24.
The winner must respond to my e-mail within 72 hours.
Two winners will be selected on Nov 14th: 1. Member with less than 19 years 2. Member with greater than or equal to 19 years
Each winner will receive a $50 electronic gift card to AmazonThis message has been edited. Last edited by: tatortodd,

Very nice Karma. I still remember watching Barney with my now adult kids and the Please and Thank You song was quite popular in the day. Thank you for the memory.

My grandmother and mother insisted we write thank you notes for gifts and, of course, we always included a "thank-you" in those. They didn't always have "please" in them.
You are right, some manners go a long way.
Please enter me, and thank you.

My child was taught please and thank you from day 1 and I always make sure to use that exact phrase even when just texting somebody with an ask, ending the text with “please and thank you”.
One should strive to be polite and raise their kids to be so. Hold doors for folks, offer to help folks carry heavy stuff etc. etc. it goes a long way especially in today’s world.
I’d love a chance to be entered.
Thank you much. Take care, shoot safe. Chris

Congrats on reaching such a great milestone. This forum is the best but what makes it the best are the members first, and how it is directed by management. Please include me, and thank you tatortodd for your post and contributions.

My kids were taught from the time that they could converse to appropriately include 'please and thank you' as a sincerity, not as an affectation. To this day, it has stuck with them. I have become quite proud of how they have grown into young men, not for their achievements, but for their behavior.
Please enter me in this generous karma and accept my own gratitude as sincere as well. s.

Please consider me for this.
The history of "please" and "thank you" is a long and storied one, filled with humor, drama, and even a hint of danger.
The use of "please" as a polite way to make a request can be traced back to the Middle Ages, when it was used as a way to demonstrate reverence or humility. The word comes from the Old French "s'il vous plaît," which means "if it pleases you." However, the use of "please" was not always appreciated. In fact, some historical figures were known to take offense at the use of the word, seeing it as a sign of weakness or subservience. For example, King Henry VIII of England was known to be quite particular about the way he was addressed, and was rumored to have had several of his advisors executed for using the word "please" in his presence.
The use of "thank you" as a way to express gratitude also has a long history. The word "thank" comes from the Old English "þancian," which means "to give thanks" or "to express gratitude." However, the use of "thank you" was not always seen as a positive thing. In fact, in some cultures, the use of "thank you" was seen as a way to put oneself above others, and could even be seen as a challenge to a duel. For example, in 17th century France, the use of "thank you" was seen as a way to assert one's superiority, and could lead to heated arguments and even duels.
Despite the occasional drama and danger, the use of "please" and "thank you" has become ingrained in English-speaking cultures as expressions of politeness and respect. They are often taught to children as important social skills, and are used as a way to build and maintain positive relationships with others. And while the occasional duel or execution may have occurred in the past, the use of "please" and "thank you" is now widely accepted as a sign of good manners and respect.
In short, the history of "please" and "thank you" is a long and varied one, filled with humor, drama, and even a hint of danger. But despite the occasional hiccup, these simple expressions of politeness have become an important part of English-speaking cultures, and are a testament to the power of good manners and respect.
