Wanting to get my dad an auto for his 60th in November.

His prior EDC was a Movado, in the 39mm-ish size.

He's seen my SRPD25 & Citizen F150 & CZ Smart, and those are too big for his taste, in case size & thickness.

Looking on the Seiko options, a few of the Presage models (SRP 837,B41,J13 for a few samples) could fit the bill.
Something like the Tissot T-Classic may be a good style as well, but lacks the see-through caseback.

Any others that you can recommend, in the $5-700 range:

- +/-39mm case size
- Exhibition caseback
- Bracelet
- Sapphire crystal a bonus ( the Presage are mineral)
- Simplistic non-'busy' dial.

Unfortunately MMW are mostly divers & too big/thick for him.

Emailed Dave recently & Luminox didn't really have anything to fit the bill. Will have to follow up with him & see if he has any other options.

Hamilton is worth checking out. They are now owned by Swatch Group. I've got one of their recent Swiss movement automatics, the Khaki Field.

If you are willing to go quartz, Hook and Gaff also have interesting watches at that price.

You might go Here in The Gallery of Para’s Parlor and check with these guys, lots of pics too. Query the posters, you’ll get lots of good comments. Read the most recent 6 or so pages.

Auto is a requirement
Have a shortlist, just need to discretely figure out which he'll like.

I posted a similar question there as well, a few weeks ago, figured it'd get more exposure here, while it buried in that thread pretty quickly.

Islander offers some good values.

Sinn is good a level or so up.

Steinhart is good, great value in homage mechanicals with Selita movements.

I can also readily recommend CW. I bought a C63 Sealander GMT and it is an amazing watch.

The C63 is nice, but topping the budget, can't get it to convert to USD on the mobile site.

Really like my VAER D7 Atlantic, but the A3 Atlas might be a good fit for your Dad.

I also recommend Christopher Ward. You can get more than a few of their watches in your price range. The C63 Sealander is available in 36 or 39mm. I have the C63 GMT and it is great.

Pro tip: Order in GBP. The prices in GBP include 17% VAT which will be removed when you order to the US. There is also a voucher for a 100£ discount. I believe the current code is 100LOUPE26. I just ordered the new C60 Trident Pro 300 on the bracelet and it came in at about $670 USD. Saved a few hundred dollars by ordering in GBP. There is a field at the bottom of the page on the left to select what currency you want to use.

Edit: Just ran a C63 GMT on the leather strap through checkout to get the price when ordered in GBP. It came in Just under $700 USD.
