Down the Rabbit Hole |
Around 5:45 pm yesterday afternoon I was riding a stretch of smooth curvy road 5 minutes from my home. A small deer came out of the woods from my right side and passed within inches of my front wheel. I was doing around 50 MPH at the time and almost zero time to brake. I was extremely lucky. A couple of minutes later I took a left turn to head north. I made it a mile or so down the road when a Pit Bull ran from someone's yard in front of my bike. Once again, missing it by inches. Two close calls within a few minutes was enough to send my Ass back to the house. His Royal Hiney |
I don't know if it's different when riding a motorcycle but 99.9% of the times, I can tell when someone is about to go into my lane. And I don't think it's psychic powers either. While I can't specify a list but there are some visual cues that flag you in a fleeting moment. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I'm not trying to argue but I don't think I see the head movement as I do how close the car is to the line, the front corner of the car, and the attitude of the wheels. My wife who isn't an "experienced" driver would often flag the car at the same time I see the signs. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. Political Cynic |
Around here there are one or two riders I see on a regular basis that seem to delight in weaving in and out of lanes and cutting cars off Yesterday I was driving on Kolb and had some yahoo pass me on the right. And I was in the right lane maintaining traffic speeds. In general I don’t mind motorcycles but I think there should be an entry level IQ test to get a license and then a 2 strike system for doing stupid shit.
