Walmart on Christmas Day
I worked for a huge food store chain in Illinois many years ago. We were open till midnight. Can't tell you how many times after we had locked the doors and the store crew was ready to leave a car would pull up and say Aww, come on I only need a gallon of milk (or whatever). They didn't care. Open from 7am to midnight and they wait till 12:05 to go shopping. Things don't change much.

When I was in high school I worked at a local gas station. This was a few years ago (regular was $0.299/gal).

There were 4 gas stations in our small town the station I worked at closed at 9:30 PM all the other stations closed at 9:00 PM. I would quite often have cars lined up to the street wanting gas. at 90:30. Like others said they knew when everyone closed but they would wait to the last minute.

BTW self serve gas stations didn't exist then.

I am old enough to remember that also. I also remember when no stores were open on Sundays. Was it the end of the world?

It's still mostly that way in France.

It's that way around these parts too. With the exception of our small grocery store, the gas stations, and bars, everything is closed up on Sundays. It can be a little annoying those times when you need something from the hardware store, but you get used to it and plan accordingly.

Plan accordingly...whatz dat?
