Each year, the 24 hour a day Walmart’s are only closed 28 hours per year. That is Christmas Eve and Day. They have no security alarms because they are constantly open. So during this time, they use local off duty cops to provide security. I volunteer to pull a shift every year. If anyone has faith that we as a race are going to make it, I invite you to go to your local Walmart and sit and watch. We are doomed. I laugh. I cry. The parking lot is completely empty. A newer SUV pulls up. A hipster gets out with his nose in his phone. Annnnnnnnnnnd he runs smack into the door that didn’t automatically open for him. Sitting on his butt, he is bewildered. He then gets up and stares at the door for a minute. Next comes waving his hands in front of the sensor. He then walks off in disgust. Next comes the endless flow of vehicles. Each gets out walks to the door, and stares at it like the monolith. The people who have been denied entry are spied by the crowd pulling up as they get back in their vehicles. This verification continues the cycle. Then there comes the dedicated disbelievers. They not only check both doors sensors at Home and Pharmacy, but there also check both doors at Grocery. They often then approach the cop and ask in a befuddled tone “Is THE Walmart open?” ( Prounounced tHE Wall Mark). When told no, they fly into a fit of rage because they need cigarettes and diapers. We are doomed as a society. Merry Christmas!

If all they need are cigarettes and diapers, the many open Stop 'n' Robs should suffice. flashguy Texan by choice, not accident of birth

We are doomed as a society, and the saddest part is that the mouth breathers will likely be the only survivors.

I wish a long time employee would write a book about their experience working for that insane place. You'd think it was more fiction than fact. _____________

I pulled a couple of shifts at closed stores. People would hammer on the door, you'd open it to tell them it was closed, and they would try to bull rush past you.

I took some videos as we closed the store last night with no one in it. Pretty odd, to say the least. But tes. A lot of people came up to the doors from the tome we closed til we drove off an hour later as we tried to get wveryone out and everything locked up and the alarm set. Walmart is a crazy place for sure. And we employees definitely all have stories. ____________________________ While you may be able to get away with bottom shelf whiskey, stay the hell away from bottom shelf tequila. - FishOn

Many consumers are addicts. There are people at home right now freaking the fuck out that the shops aren’t open. It’s like they can’t breathe unless they can drive around and consume. Idiots. Walmart employees deserve a day off like most Americans. Starbucks, the mall, and the rest of the bullshit will open back up tomorrow. What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

I worked there for about a year. I was well treated and nicely compensated. Full medical benefits and something like $10/hr for stocking shelves. That must have been 23 years ago. All the stories about mistreating employees are grossly exaggerated.

Do them a solid man and send 'em to Walgreens. I actually had to make a run there myself this morning for some C cell batteries that "Santa" apparently forgot to leave at my Daughters house for my Granddaughters toy. Of course I HAD AAA, AA, D and 9 volts in my stash... just no C's. Collecting dust.

I remember my retail days well. 30 minutes after closing, parking lot near empty, doors locked and lights are dimmed, and some jerk wad is banging on the door.

I remember not so many years ago when there was NOTHING open on Christmas Day. You got gas the day before if you needed it, or you had to hit a truck stop. Now, just about every chain gas station is open, along with a lot of the restaurant chains, Walgreens, CVS, etc

As a DOD Cop, I worked at Wright-Patterson AFB. At one point, one of the entrance gates was closed due to construction. When I drove by the gate to check on it, I was amazed to see a long line of cars sitting at the closed gate. I then approached the first car: Me: Why are you sitting here? The gate is closed. Driver: I have worked at WPAFB for X years and this is way I go to work. Me: Use Gate XX. Its open. Driver: I don't know how to get there. I then gave directions to Gate XX. Driver: But I wont be able to find my building from Gate XX. Me: Drive around until you find it. It will be an adventure. And I had the exact same conversation with everyone in the line. After getting rid of the first of these Lemmings, more began to arrive! I gave up and left. End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles

I remember those days. The first time I actually went somewhere on Christmas Day, after I had my own DL, was surreal. Cold, snowy, streets mildly snow-covered, and nobody else on the road. I wish it was still that way "America is at that awkward stage. I always wondered why there were LEOs stationed at them when they were closed for the holiday. I wont go near a WalMart in the Christmas shopping season. Just a Waco Shell station has been open here in Richwood, Ky. My pal Ziggy and his Wife from Germany gave me a huge bag full of German cookies and candies. Too much sugar and tomorrow I get to use my gift card for Frishes. Im gettin a huge burger.

Retired, laying back and enjoying life |
Thirty years in the Army, retired in 92. Travelling on Christmas day was often times a necessity. Remember clearly trying to find gas to complete trip. Food and other amenities could occasionally be found at a few rare truck stops that were open on Christmas Day. Remember stopping at a small out of way truck stop that was open in Arkansas back in early 80s and when cook learned we were military having to travel on Christmas put on a feed fit for a king and then the manager would not let us pay. This was years before people would even acknowledge that military people were human much less act civilized towards you. One of my many fond memories of Christmas. Freedom comes from the will of man. In America it is guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment
