It depends on price range, and price range should depend on the value of its contents. Doesn't make sense to put a $200 gun in a $4000 safe, but it also doesn't make sense to put $100,000 worth of guns into a $149 tin can.

For most of us, the AMSEC BF series is the best balance between quality and price.

A few of us, need to step up to TL-15, TL-30, and TL-30x6 due to the value of contents and LEO response time. Graffunder and AMSEC's RF line come to mind for this level of gun safe.

Sturdy makes a damn good safe. Can't go wrong with one as far as I'm concerned.

If they are built like most gun safes and the top, back or one of the sides is exposed, then 5 minutes with an angle grinder and a few cutoff wheels will solve that problem.

Call a locksmith. A good one with safe cracking experience, not the dude with the cheap key cutter and car lockout kit in the back of his Prius.

So far everybody has mentioned viable products, but it all comes down to what tatortodd said. It depends on what you're trying to accomplish.

More steel, especially for the same price, is better. But although 1/4" is better than 1/8", it's only really going to slow somebody down using basic tools. Against power tools there will be little difference in the time it takes to get in.

Some people need fire protection, and others don't need it at all. If you don't need it, go with as much steel as you can get. If you do need it, a true composite safe offers better security than steel alone along with the fire protection.

And beware the false and misleading claims prevalent among gun safe manufacturers. Many play a bit fast and loose in this department. There are also plenty of videos that are engineered to back up these claims, which although they look good, don't necessarily mean anything in a real world scenario.

If she needs a referral to a competent tech in the area let me know and I'll point you in the right direction.

It could be as simple as a phone call for a factory set combination, or as complex as needing to drill the safe open. Unless the safe is junk, there's rarely a need to cause any significant damage beyond a small hole that is easily repaired.

With his help in planning, earlier this year I undertook a multi year project to solve my gun and other valuables storage problems once and for all. I have the space with my new house to build a walk-in safe room in my basement, but was looking at the best way to design said room, what kind of vault door, etc. Frank helped me with the design of the room and I contracted out the concrete work earlier this year and I hope to be able to purchase a TL-30 door from Frank next year to mostly complete the project. With his help and input I will have a customized valuable protection solution that will work for my firearms, ammunition, watch collection and other valuables. It will have cost me significantly less and offer considerably more protection than anything commercially available “off the shelf” so to speak, and will make a heck of a man cave too. I highly recommend anyone wanting to buy a gun safe chat with Frank first and help come up with the bets solution for your needs AND give him the chance at your business.

I will also give a thumbs up to Frank Zykan. I contacted him recently and he led me to the perfect safe delivered to my house for a reasonable price. Franks knows his stuff.

As safes go, you get what you pay for. I wanted a safe that would be fireproof but also provide good protection from a burglar. I got a TL-15 rated safe from Frank and it also has a 2 hour fire rating. I'm good to go now.

I like my Cannon gunsafe . Awesome warranty . During the flood in 2016 , my safe went under 4 feet of water ( empty ) . Their warranty covered this . They asked for a couple of pictures and they shipped me a brand new larger safe at zero cost to me .

Yep. Widow wants to save the safe. It is a high end Browning safe. One of the neighbors suggested calling the manufacturer.
