A bit of a coincidence, a niece just graduated with a BSN and is also going into NICU. I think that’s great and certainly rewarding (most of the time). She’ll be off on her own in no time. Congratulations to her, and to mom and dad.

Actually no. At our hospital ( like most all hospitals these days) still uses a lot of travel contract staff. The travel staffing companies provide a great wage and a housing stipend ( intended to cover one of those extended stay hotel type mini condos ) but I know a lot of travel contract staff that have campers and pocket the travel expense stipend. One guy has a heavy duty looking off road truck camper and I see him set up in the parking lot every other week or so.

NICU is a tough gig. I agree monitoring her to see how she adapts to the stress is important.
Soon enough she will find a place of her own.
Thankfully gone are the days when nurses were not properly compensated for their efforts.
With the current staff shortages some of the “ travel nurses” I know get paid more per shift than the MD’s

Congratulations to your daughter and to you for raising her well.

If you're goin' through hell, keep on going.
Don't slow down. If you're scared don't show it.
You might get out before the devil even knows you're there.

Congratulations! It is always nice to see them leave the nest and fly. Your parenting is to be commended!

All 3 of my kids are thriving (2 step, 1 mine), the boys were very concerning. Both of them are now veterans, and well launched in careers.

Congratulations to her & you and your wife. My Son is also a NICU nurse in the Nashville area. He did a stretch in ICU and has been in NICU for going on a year. It's a very high-stress position as many of the tiny one's are just out of surgery and have very detailed regimens for their meds and monitoring. Luckily, he only deals with 2 at a time and has a good support structure at work and at home. He's about to leave that position for a 5 month intensive on surgical nursing.
