"A trio of French soldiers on leave was arrested and face prosecution after they intervened to help a woman who was being robbed by a youth on the streets of Paris....While in custody, one of the soldiers is said to have remarked: “If we have to be in custody, next time, we will not intervene to defend a victim.”"

This original article in French is very vague already, especially the part about the prosecution and the person who deciteded about it. It´s highly doubtful if said person, an assistant of the prosecuter, would have the authority to prosecute.

MutinyThis is the same country that just 3 years ago said you are heroes if you are 3 Americans intervening in an incident on a train- maybe those guys would be in jail if they tried that today. Or maybe the French just want Americans to bail them out every time.
