Firearm manufacturer Smith & Wesson officially moved its headquarters from New England to Tennessee, earning praise from the NRA. "Congratulations to Smith & Wesson on their grand opening in Tennessee. This move is a testament to their enduring legacy, their commitment to firearm excellence, and to the importance of preserving America’s gun industry and Second Amendment rights in a fair environment," NRA Executive Director of Advancement Tyler Schropp told Fox News Digital in an exclusive comment. "Representing millions of NRA members and gun owners, the NRA was proud to be the tip of the spear for the passage and enactment of the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act that saved America’s firearm industry," Schropp continued, citing the 2005 Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act that prevents firearm manufacturers from being held liable if products are used to commit a crime. Smith & Wesson was established in 1852 in Connecticut before it soon moved its headquarters to Springfield, Massachusetts. Now, the firearm manufacturer calls Maryville, Tennessee, home after holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday at its new 650,000-square feet headquarters. https://www.foxbusiness.com/re...blue-state-tennessee "No matter where you go - there you are"

Well if your prior state does not want you there and actively makes laws against your company products then it’s time to leave.

SIG is expanding their facility in Jacksonville Arkansas. If you're goin' through hell, keep on going. Don't slow down. If you're scared don't show it. You might get out before the devil even knows you're there. NRA ENDOWMENT LIFE MEMBER

That's strictly an ammunition factory at this time. The latest expansion announced a couple days ago is just adding additional ammo production capabilities. I haven't seen or heard anything about them moving gun production to Arkansas (yet).

They will still manufacture revolvers in the Ma. Location. About a thousand jobs. S&W does not plan to move any manufacturing equipment from Springfield. Smith & Wesson will also close facilities in Connecticut and Missouri as part of consolidating in Tennessee. ______________________________________________ Life is short. Buy that Classic SIG in All Stainless, No rail wear will be painless. |
^^^^^ That's my information as well about revolver manufacturing remaining in Springfield. Some of the forging equipment in Springfield is older than time itself. If Smith & Wesson was absolutely forced to completely leave Springfield, the outdated monstrously heavy forging equipment would be left behind and sold for scrap. S & W revolver business is a small portion of the total S & W production volume. Manufacturing revolvers is labor intensive and costly. Manufacturing M & P polymer 9mm pistols is not. At present, the plastic fantastic rules the corporate world. It's the same at SIG, Ruger, Springfield Armory, Walther, Taurus and countless others. Each of them continue making all metal handguns, but the majority of the bread and butter money is in the polymer semiautomatic pistols. I'm not a Lawyer or Accountant, but if they ship completed revolvers to Tennessee, and then distribute them from Tennessee, are they out from under the Massachusetts greedy tax collectors? Except for the property taxes on the decrepit old buildings? Perhaps they will only make revolver parts in Springfield, and ship the parts to TN for final assembly. Time will tell. I have no love for Smith & Wesson due to what they did to Thompson Center Arms. I have no plans to ever buy a S & W polymer handgun. Also, no plans to buy a new S & W revolver. I have sold off all my newer production S & W revolvers with the hillary hole, except one long barrel "X frame" S & W .500 hunting revolver. I've got one old school Model 36 J frame. I wish them the best of luck with the new TN headquarters, and getting somewhat out of a shitty blue state. But regardless of what happens with S & W, I will not be contributing any dollars for their expansion or continued operation. NRA Benefactor Life Member NRA Instructor USPSA Chief Range Officer

After all those local growth and expansions, highly doubt SIG will move anywhere anytime soon. And why would, or should, they? NH is pretty red, when it comes to the RTKBA. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wik...aws_in_New_Hampshire Q

Took em long enough. I can't figure out why any of the gun companies stay in the anti gun states.

Money. Uprooting/rebuilding their huge factory, and potentially losing most of their skilled workforce, is massively expensive. Businesses (normally) are in it to make money, not make political points. So they're going to remain where they are so long as they can maximize their profits, until the taxes and legislation become so oppressive to the point where the beancounters' formula shifts and moving elsewhere makes financial sense. (And if they're large enough, then they have enough lobbying pressure to be able to stave off quite a bit of these types of issues for a long while.) Similar reason why a number of gun lovers (even quite a few right here on the forum) continue to reside in anti-gun states. That's where they're established, that's where their families are, that's where their careers are, etc. Most people - and most businesses - aren't prepared to totally uproot and start over just to make a political point. Other considerations take priority.

100%. If it was just me, I would have been out of Illinois years ago. But, two of my kids along with most of my grandkids live in the area. As long as they're here, the wife is not going anywhere. _____________________________________________________________________ “One of the common failings among honorable people is a failure to appreciate how thoroughly dishonorable some other people can be, and how dangerous it is to trust them.” – Thomas Sowell
