I’ll start.worst thing besides a wrench here and there.

I took an iPad to work. That afternoon when I left work and sat it on the passenger part of my. motorcycle’s seat. A co-worker came up and started talking to me, I completely got sidetracked and forgot about it, being in a black case it didn’t stand out either.

Left for home 32 miles away. Realized it when I made a stop two miles from home. Backtracked, hiked a mile each side of the road from work to no avail figuring that was the most logical place.

Found nothing. Set the clear iPad option so unknown if it was ever found. Also I had a rebate for Mobil 1 motor oil filled out and ready to mail inside with it so there was a address if someone had found it and was so inclined they could have mailed it.

Lost my streamlight flashlight on the side of the road when I was a cop. I remember setting it on the hood near he windshield wipers as I was cuffing a guy…walked around to my side and got in and drove off to the magistrate. Figured it out later after clearing the jail…spent all night looking for that light.

The sgt ratted me out to the Lt. later she had the property guy issue me a new one (and didn’t make me pay for it).

I live about two miles from the interstate and spend a lot going and coming on it. One morning I got on it and after about half a mile, something flew up in the air and over the roof. Wondered "what the hell was that?" Then about a mile down the road, I remembered I had left my checkbook lying on the hood. Never did find it. Apparently, neither did anyone else.

A bundle of Boy Scout uniforms, I was delivering to my future father in law, the scoutmaster. They worked themselves loose from the back of my motorcycle.

I had hauled any number of crazy loads on that bike and never lost a thing. They were eventually found and returned.

Oh no! This is a dangerous thread. What if it's a forum member who lost the $100 I found. I'd have to give it back, of course.

I suspect I've lost more than a few 10mm sockets and a few 10mm combination wrenches on the road. Confused

I nearly >< lost an electronic tire pressure gauge along the side of the road. Had just checked tire pressure. Stupidly set the thing on the hood at the bottom on the windshield, drove off to work.

Runnin' down the road at 50 MPH I saw out of the corner of my eye something go flying, Immediately thought "What the...??? Oh no, the tire pressure gauge!" Turned around and went back. Two parts had separated upon impact, but they snapped right back together and the thing worked.

Not a "side of the road" loss, but I did stupidly lose my very favorite sailing ball cap overboard when I neglected to secure the end of a cap keeper to my t-shirt. Turns out they make great sinkers, too Frown

Driving on I-65 S in the heart of Louisville - beautiful day so I rolled down all the windows and opened the sunroof. Had a $75 Menard's rebate check over the visor and out the window it went.

I was hauling produce in a pickup and a bushel of bulk apples came off. That is a sight to see in your rear view mirror when about a hundred apples hit the ground at 50 mph. Glad no one was tailgating that day.

The gold bezel off my 2-tone Rolex GMT master somewhere east of Tallahassee on I-10.
I was tossing pistachio shells out the window and caught the bezel on the edge of the window. Pulled over to get out and look for it for a couple of minutes and then decided it wasn't worth getting run over for.

Many years ago, was at Home Depot tying some wood trim to the top of my Jeep and using my almost new Spyderco all stainless (not sure of the model, the Economy comes closest). Got sidetracked and left it on the roof when I drove off. Got less than a half mile away when it hit me. Raced back but no joy. Someone got a nice knife that day.
