I am confused by 123's post Do you carry 30 extra gallons of fuel in your vehicle? Do you mean at home? At home I always have 50 gallons stored. I also use a Sig Large range bag for carrying my 220Carry, spare mags, spare ammo, water, snacks, and a thermal blanket. But the pink pig would be great! ![]() ___________________ "He who is without oil, shall throw the first rod" Compressions 9.5:1

Exceptional Circumstances![]() |
I have a get home bag in every vehicle. I EDC a pistol but do not leave it in the vehicle. I have food, water, warm clothes, the ability to make a fire, purify water and construct a temporary shelter. I also have a pretty stout first aid bag with CATS, israeli bandages, combat gauze, decompression needles, chest seals, nasopharyngeal tubes, etc. I think the chances of being involved in or witnessing a car accident are greater than being involved in a bug out situation but better to be prepared for all. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

I know I SHOULD carry those things, but currently I don't... for several reasons. 1. I never leave the house without a handgun, and if outside of my "comfort zone" of safety, I'll throw in an extra mag or three, and more than once I've carried multiple handguns with multiple reloads. 2. While I have considered carrying my AR in a bag with 5 loaded mags, I have concerns about leaving it there; car break-ins, thefts, wrecks, etc. I suppose I could bring it in the house every time I come home, but that still leaves it unattended when I go other places... which admittedly is not often these days. 3. Historically, so far, nasty shit just doesn't happen where I live just outside of Huntsville, AL. The first time something does, and it'll most likely start in the city, I most definitely WILL keep my rifle with me! Even at the first hint of problems like that, I'll start carrying it! 4. If it's in the car when I'm at home, and the SHTF outside, I'm likely separated from my rifle. Highly unlikely scenario, but it crossed my mind. Please feel free to change my mind if you think I'm wrong, but that's the way I feel about the subject at the moment. In other areas of the country, I wouldn't consider leaving the house without my rifle! Now on the subject of the "To Go" bag, I seriously should do that ASAP, but getting my wife to comply would likely be an issue unless/until things go bad locally... and I'm not leaving without her! And after reading other's comments, it's much more likely I'd need that bag to get home and "shelter in place" than going anywhere. The only place I would possibly go (other than returning home) would be to my daughter's place in Georgia (about 235 miles), and that is easily done on a half a tank of gas, so no worries there as I normally keep the tank full, or mostly so. ____________________________ Bill R. I have never left a gun in the truck as it's too easy to steal if it is only behind glass. That may change as I just installed a Tuffy Security steel locker that goes under the backseat of the truck. Yes, if a thief brings power tools they can get into it, but it will stop the smash and grab methheads. This will not be a quick access deal but I'm thinking about placing an 8" .300 Blackout AR pistol in the locker, and a backpack that it will fit into. I also keep a bag with a 2nd set of clothes, good shoes, rain jacket, water etc. I have a few SIGs.

For real?![]() |
Not really. I keep what my coworkers call my hoe bag in the car. It's just a backpack with one change of clothes, one day of meds, two bottles of water and a windbreaker. I always have a gun on my belt and carry a spare mag. There's spare mags in my driver's door pocket for my rotation of carry guns. Also in the trunk is a first aid kit and I do have locked in a safe under the spare tire my old HK VP9 and about 8 mags for it. That's pretty much it. Work is 13 miles from home so if my car breaks down, it's not too far. Honestly, if SHTF, I'd probably just take the work car home since it's got a rifle-plate carrier, shotgun and select-fire rifle in it already. lol Not minority enough!

Buddy used to keep his AK pistol in a tennis racquet cover, probably not a great idea other than you can carry it from your car to where you're going without it being obvious. Problem with gun bags, jmo, is they look like gun bags, imagine it's more obvious to those of us who have guns... Group of hellions were going through our neighborhood stealing things out of unlocked cars, mine was locked but no gun in it, so I make sure it comes out of the vehicle when I'm not in it.
