Hats off to you HJrocket, both for your experience and your service. I've visited a lot of Civil War battlefields, but there's something different and special for me about Gettysburg. I only got to spend one snowy afternoon there, but it was one of the most memorable afternoons of my life. Perhaps because I've read about the battle since I was a kid, but to walk in the Devil's Den and see Little Round Top, to stand at the high tide and envision Pickett's charge coming towards me, to see the monuments to the dead, it was all much more moving to me than I had expected. I can't wait to get back someday with my kids when they're old enough to appreciate what was gained, and lost, on those July days in 1863.

Impressive all around!

Where did you serve with the Army Air Corp in the 40's? My grandpa was in the Air Corp in the mid-40s stationed in Goose Bay Labrador.

I took my son last summer. He lives in Canada with his mother most of the year and I have found it hard to always connect with him. Gettysburg’s seemed to wake up his American half and now he has a profound interest in US history. But to have walked those hallowed acres with actual men involved just wows me.

Amazing, and very cool.
