Secret Service trainee accidentally shoots herself in leg
I've taken multiple training courses at a local range, they are 3 day courses covering different situations. Every single one considerable time, hours, was spent strictly drawing, shooting from the hip preferably without shooting yourself in your non-weapon hand or legs, then holstering. Pretty basic stuff.

This is why I like the HK LEM trigger. When holstering, I keep my thumb on the hammer. It can’t fire that way.

Any flintlock pistol would be just fine.

Yeah, they are trainees and stuff will happen. It doesn't excuse whatever dumb thing she did, and there almost certainly was some dumb thing. The point of training is to teach them not to be dumb, and some are going to wash out. Too bad it resulted in a serious injury.

I have a friend that is a retired firearms instructor from FLETC. This happens a lot more than one would think.

People are people and people make mistakes. The last unintentional discharge I witnessed was by a “white,” middle-aged man who had been in law enforcement for years. The other two I had recent personal knowledge of were by “white,” middle-aged men who had been in law enforcement for years.

It's become quite clear that they are failing to meet basic expectations. And I'm not just talking about this ND.

Maybe send them back to Columbia again. They seemed in their element there.

There is some really concerning bullet damage to the gun lockers outside the dorm areas at our state LE academy. Nobody popped one while I was there, but it was clearly a thing. Pretty crazy that somebody managed to do that, too, since we weren't even supposed to bring loaded guns into the building and had to show clear at the front desk when we entered (could be that policy was implemented after the holes in the lockers, though).

I've witnessed police cadets do some really dumb things... But luckily, none of them shot themselves.

She was the only one professional enough to carry a Glock foty.

But she’s not a cadet. She’s already a uniformed SS officer.

I don’t know if it would be equivalent, but how many officers shoot themselves trying to make the SWAT team? Are the standards higher for the SS than for most law enforcement agencies?

Back in the day, when I worked for the Armored Truck company ANY negligent weapon discharge was met with IMMEDIATE TERMINATION. That went for everybody.
No excuses, your fired. If it happened off company property you would be held for the police for discharging a weapon in city limits or anything else the police decided to charge.

I will say I’m a little picky about ‘manual of arms’ myself with a carry gun, non LEO. I do like the LEM trigger on my P2000SK. The trigger itself has a little weight & length of travel, one can also put a thumb on the hammer.

Of course, shouldn’t be happening with a Glock or whatever. I don’t know the specifics of the event in question.

I seem to remember an ND a few years back where a jacket drawstring (cord toggle) got inside the trigger guard of a pistol being re-holstered and shot the user in the thigh.
