Yeah, 107 is nothing unless standards have changed, normal is 80 to 120 pre-meal (not necessarily fasting.) Two hours after a meal, it's normal to be 180. I've been a Type 2 for 26 years, and have had average A1c or 6.5 for the last 15. If your blood glucose is high, that can be corrected with simple, moderate exercise like a brisk 15 minute walk. I test about 6 times a day, and also before and after exercise. If my numbers are, say, 185 after breakfast, a 30 minute walk (my usual jaunt) drops it to around 100. When you get your annual eye exam, ask the ophthalmologist to conduct a retinopathy exam. If your blood glucose levels are causing you any physical harm, it will often show up fairly early on on the retinas.

mine too....although now the internist replacing my old retired internist, is saying for geezer my age it's better to aim for 7.0~7.5. My old internist actually was shocked when I was at 5.9 after immense effort.

Not a doctor, but I'm Type 1 diabetic, which means I monitor my blood sugar constantly. Like others have said, don't freak out about one fasting blood sugar test, what really matters is the long-term glucose, which can be measured by testing your A1C. That will show a rough average of your blood sugar over the past 90 days. To put things into perspective, when I got diagnosed last year, my fasting blood sugar was 393, and my A1C was > 15.5. These days I'm on daily insulin and a very strict diet and exercise routine. I usually wake up with a blood glucose of between 80-100, and my last two A1C tests were 5.2 and 5.4. 107, while a touch high, isn't anything to get worried about by itself. Something as simple as your immune system fighting off a cold can cause elevated blood sugar. If I eat a lot the night before, especially foods that are slow to digest, it can cause me to wake up higher. If your doctor is concerned, I'm sure his first step going forward will be to order an A1C.[FLASH_VIDEO] [/FLASH_VIDEO]

Mike, you are being given very good advice. You need an A1C test. It doesn't matter what you eat or drink the evening before the test. The A1C test will reveal the history of your blood glucose levels of the last 90 days (with 1 known exception which I will post next.

An A1c test will fail in cases of blood disorders. Absent that, old fashioned fasting glucose tests are obsolete. After a 14 hour coma, I ordered a blood glucose meter. It was in the 600s. Now my A1c is 5.4 When I had to diagnose my Type II diabetes, I was forced to stay in a hotel in downtown Seattle to get my diagnosis. Two weeks in a hotel in downtown Seattle is very expensive, but I eventually got my insulin.

Forgot to post. The PSA was fine and the glucose was 107. The PA sent me a note, “your test results over the last few years have all been just over the line, Dr. says that it’s just your blood chemistry and don’t worry about it.” "Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor.” Robert A. I have several blood tests a year and my glucose is usually 110 plus or minus a little and my doctor never even mentions it. I just had annual physical and my AC1 was 5.1. My HDL is also a little bit low but my LDL is way low so they look at the ratio of the two which is fine at 3.1. A past doctor of mine wanted me to go on Lipitor because my HDL was at 38 and when I challenged him on that saying that "really Lipitor when my total cholesterol is 112 ? " and he backed off on that.

Everyone is different and I am not a doctor, but I *was* type 2 diabetic. My doc took me off Metformin after a while because I got my numbers under control through diet. My A1C was under six, and she said as long as my fasting blood sugar stayed under 120 consistently, that I was fine. I don't even test it anymore, it's always 110 or under. I start feeling weak and shaky under 90, so SigSentry's commment about freaking out hitting 97 shows how different we all are. 104 would be a good day for me, and two hours ago, I had an endocrinologist tell me I am not diabetic anymore. My last A1C was 5.5.
