Get my pies outta the oven! |
Years ago I was told to use this stuff in my gas tank by members here on SigForum and did it for a long time. I have gotten busy with life and family and all of that and neglected it and my Mazda5 has started running kind of rough lately and not sounding great. Last week when I was low on the gas gauge, I grabbed a bottle and stuck it in there and filled up the tank and did the same again this week. My engine is practically purring now. Not sure what kind of voodoo magic they use in this stuff, but it does work well!

Yes it’s some good stuff. I’ve taken to using seafoam once in a while. Being that I live closer to Costco now, I’m going to start filling up there. Born only is it ¢12-15 cheaper per gallon but it’s also top tier fuel. Chevron gas is considered top tier as well and I believe they use their own additives in their fuel. _____________

It's good, not as good as BG44 but still a good product.

In the yahd, not too fah from the cah |
I'd get it but every time I try to put in an additive it spills out of the fill tube. I think its the anti siphon device.

Techron is good, and an excellent Fuel Injector cleaner, but I prefer Red Line SI-1 Complete Fuel System Cleaner. It has THE Highest Level of PEA (< 34.5%) of any similar product, and does an outstanding job of removing the Carbon deposits that are common in GDI (Direct Injection) Engines. In this respect, it is superior to everything else on the market! https://www.amazon.com/Red-Lin...leaner/dp/B000CPI5Z0 ____________________________________________________________ If Some is Good, and More is Better.....then Too Much, is Just Enough !! Tell us about your experience using it, please. I have never used it but have heard nothing but great things about it.
That's a good price there for the 2 pack for $26. I think I'm going to pick some up. I do have I have turbo and GDI in my 1.5 liter Civic. Being over 123k for a MY 2018, it has more miles than I wanted to put on. _____________

I have been using Techron cleaner for decades and am very pleased with it. I usually keep 4-5 bottles of it in my shop. I just bought some more recently, and the price has most definitely gone UP!! Still way cheaper than taking your car in to have the injectors cleaned.

Shit don't mean shit |
Don't use it more than once per oil change.

I’ll have to try it sometime, looks more expensive than Techron though. And that is now like 12 bucks a bottle, used to be like 8-9 bucks. Goddam inflation
Does that mean every 6,000 miles then? That’s when I get my oil changed. Bottle says every 3,000

Used to use a bottle in a tank before every oil change (all through the late 80's 90's) but now I have a direct injection engine. Great stuff and at one time the only one Ford recommended and what BMW often would suggest/recommend. -------------------- I like Sigs and HK's, and maybe Glocks

I typically fill up at a Chevron station close to my house once a month. I'd do it more often but the Chevron is a bit pricier than independent stations. My car seems to love the Techron stuff.

Drill Here, Drill Now |
The contaminants it removes will end up in the oil so like Don Draper said change it the tank before the oil change. If you change the oil every 6000 miles just use it at 5700ish miles. If you use it at 3000 mile you'll have those contaminants in the oil and oil filter for 3000 miles. Some good info here. Am I reading this as one treatment per oil change (assuming 6K/change)? Maybe a tank a month in my case might be a bit much?

Techron is a poly ether amine. It is a long serving detergent molecule. For GDI engines there are more effective detergents. One fuel with GDI detergent is by a brand with yellow and red colors. ------- Trying to simplify my life...

I treat my 'Fuel System' at the last fill-up where I'll run thru a full tank (entirely) prior to an oil change. This is especially important IMO with a high PEA (Polyether Amine) content treatment such as Redline SI-1 as it not only cleans injectors, but has an major impact on carbon buildup in the cylinder/combustion chamber as well. ____________________________________________________________ If Some is Good, and More is Better.....then Too Much, is Just Enough !! Care to share what those more effective detergents for GDI engines are? My experience as a result of an extremely thorough 'Carbon Clean' of a Audi 4.2L V8, was that PEA was THE Most Effective active ingredient in removing carbon from the Intake Ports/Valves. I used CRC GDI Intake Valve Cleaner (claims highest PEA content) on the Port Dividers, and in the Intake Ports after the mechanical removal of all of the big stuff, followed by abrasive blasting (w/ walnut shells) in order to clean the back side if the valve stems and low in/on the floor of the port near the valve where Walnut Blasting was not effective. Due to 'supply chain issues' last summer, the CRC Intake Valve Cleaner was hard to find and I could only get two cans. When I realized was running low (and need to conserve the good stuff!), I bought a can of Sea-Foam, which did absolutely NOTHING on the carbon! By comparison, the CRC seemed to dissolve the 'carbon buildup' compared to the Sea-Foam, and I attribute this to the PEA. This is a representative Intake Port after the Carbon Clean... Here's the Engine post 'Carbon Clean' just prior to installing the Fuel Rails and Intake Manifolds... This particular Direct Injection V8 is prone to Carbon Buildup, so if there's something better than PEA, I'd like to know. With respect to Techron vs. Redline SI-1, in reviewing the MSDS sheets for both (though they don't provide exact ingredient amounts, just a 'range' to protect trade secrets), the Redline indicates a higher absolute content of PEA and the Techron has a higher solvent content. Even shaking a bottle of Techron, this is evident. ____________________________________________________________ If Some is Good, and More is Better.....then Too Much, is Just Enough !!
