My wife and I are visiting Charleston, SC for the first time for our 20th wedding anniversary. Arriving 11/14 in the afternoon and departing 11/18 in the afternoon. 3 full days, the arriving evening and departing morning are open.

Looking for advice on activities and restaurants. We are open to all types of cuisine from fine dining to dive bar as long as the food is good. We would like to try some local cuisine during our stay and we enjoy some cocktails so some good places to have a drink or two in an old style southern atmosphere would be ideal.

We are staying at the Planters Inn and leaning toward the Peninsula Grill for our anniversary dinner on the 15th.

Thanks in advance.

I believe there was a post fairly recently about this same thing with lots of replies. Might have good luck searching for and reading that thread.

Charleston is a fantastic place but best to have a plan as there is a lot to see/do.

Enjoy!

I cannot recommend the historic carriage rides enough. They take you through the olde towne and talk all about the history and architecture. Thoroughly enjoyable.
The market in the center of town is a blast also. Just remember to haggle prices on those hand woven baskets if you want to pick one up. They will always come down.
Fort Moultrie is another must see. It's right on the bay and overlooks Fort Sumpter. There are still cannon ball scars on the walls from Black Beard!!! It's a really amazing place because you can go down into the old powder rooms and see parts of it that was constructed in the early 1700's to fight off pirates and up to colonial, civil war era, and all the way to WW2.

We were there in June for a couple days and we really enjoyed walking around town.

We had great meals at Poogan's Porch, Grace and Grit and the Texas style BBQ place that I can't place the name of but I am sure someone will chime in.

Go to the Planter's Inn. Eat coconut cake for dessert.

You're welcome.

Generally, I would agree, as I have done the carriage tours a couple of times. However, the last time we went about a year ago, the tour companies had neutered any, and all references too much of the historical names associated with the city such as General P.G.T. Beauregard. They will, however, point all the pride landmarks and stories of gay pirates… both real and imagined.

I stay in Mt. Pleasant at the Holiday Inn Express, on the left when you get off the bridge, and I've never eaten in Mt. Peasant. We normally go to downtown Charleston but I bookmarked the Shem site and try some places next time.

We were down in that area back in 2014 while at a vacation at Isle of Palms.

If you are a history buff, I’d go check out the CSS Hunley exhibit, that’s the one thing I’m still sorry I never got to see while there.
