There is good news. NYPD may have found the gun used in the McCluskey murder. [Gotta wonder how many stickups were done with that Prancing Pony.]

Sent home after being treated in the ED. At the link: “The wounded EMT, identified as Richard McMahon, was released from the hospital Thursday. Video showed him smiling in a wheelchair while fellow first responders greeted him with applause.” Nice is overrated "It's every freedom-loving individual's duty to lie to the government." There are only about 60 or 70 under this title. They attend a 16 week academy and go through training with a NYPD FTO for 10 weeks of so.

Ten or so years ago I was asked to teach a young bloke who was going to work in Africa how to maintain and shoot an AK pattern rifle. As we got to know each other I learned the job was in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The job itself was flying around to mining sites to check on the recovery of mine workers injured on the job, but not so badly they couldn't work (e.g., light duty). This was needed because some of the "walking wounded" probably should have been hospitalized, but the workers refused, fearing the loss of wage and job. I asked if the money was good and he replied "On my first day on the job as a paramedic for Camden, NJ, the first piece of gear I was issued was body armor." He explained for three years he worked in Camden, taking all the OT he could to finance a return to university. I met him about a week after he graduated from American University. At AU he'd met a South African who worked for a mining concern, and that's how he got the job. He picked up the story with his new employer telling him he'd need to learn about AK pattern rifles before he showed up on Day 1. His employer explained that they are flying over a war zone much of the time, and there is a very real chance he could be on a ex-Soviet MI-8 or -17 "Hip" helicopter that got shot down or crashed. He also added that if you see people shooting at you, shoot back. Surprised by the nature of the job I inquired about compensation. It was six figures, four weeks on, two weeks off. Company paid vacation (four weeks), with travel costs paid each year. And the very real chance of ending up being eaten in the jungle. And not be a lion or leopard. My student quipped that it was the same basic job as Camden, but he was making six times the pay, under better working conditions. Camden is a legendary hell hole. I once spoke to a cop from there about 20 years ago who said he unholstered his handgun every night he was on the job. We believe arming our fellow Americans – both physically and philosophically – helps them fulfill our Founding Fathers' intent with the Second Amendment: To serve as a check on state power.

I used to work at the Camden NJ SSA Office and played in a softball league. Our office at the time was located in a complex of offices that included the Camden PD headquarters, the US Marshals, IRS, US Customs (as they were known at the time), the Camden County Dept of Social Services and one other agency that I don't recall. (Safety in numbers I guess). All the agencies were in the softball league. I remember attending an end of summer cook out and having a conversation with several guys from different agencies. A name came up about a particularly noxious ass hole Camden resident. Surprisingly enough, every single guy from every agency knew who he was. They all had dealings with him. (SSA had dealings with this guy because losers with long criminal records apply for disability benefits in large numbers. It's just one more scam they run. Guys like that are why the denial rate for disability claims runs about 70 percent.) Anyway, we all came to the conclusion that the same group of ass holes is giving us all work. We all have jobs because of them.
