Watch this five minute video and tell me dueling should not be restored and encouraged as a legal means to deal with people like this guy. We need far fewer people like this in government, and I believe dueling would successfully offer that outcome.

I am getting sick and tired of EVERY response beginning with, "...thank you for that question." Wish I could reach through the screen and throat-punch this fucktard.

"If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Not just on the easy ones; you take the tough ones too…” – MAJ Richard D. Winters (1918-2011), E Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne

"Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil... Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 5:20,24

Other than one short clip, I don’t (cannot) watch those things, but now that you mention it, I truly wonder if it isn’t some sort of tactical ploy intended to reduce the number of people who view them and learn what … (characterization omitted) sorts of people are being considered for those jobs.

“ Enlightenment is man’s emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one’s own understanding without another’s guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one’s own mind without another’s guidance.”

While dueling may not be revived, it would be harder to prevent caning, as someone who actually needs the device cannot be denied it even traveling by air.

That is a practice that was applied on the floor of Congress. A Southern Democrat did it to a anti slavery Republican. A lot of politics were going on that week in 1856. The Democrat claimed a speech made was slander and under the Southern code of honor required the attack. The Republican recovered from the injuries subsequently.

Which leads to, there is a precedent for Democrats beating Republicans on the floor of the Senate - the attacker waited until the galleries were clear to prevent the sight of violence being visited upon women. How thoughtful. What isn't clear is if Republicans are allowed to reciprocate, as currently any attempt to protect the honor of our country seems to be denigrated wholesale.

The 2A is the right to keep and bear "arms," of which edged and blunt instruments are largely what were carried and used when it was penned. The crude firearms of the day were commonly limited to one discharge. In our current mindset we seem to have forgotten that.

I don't always carry a cane, but when I do, it's eleven layers of wrapped fiberglass with a stainless steel head.

There are two reasons for using this device:

1) You wish to acknowledge the questioner but speak to a third party. This is often used with a friendly questioner who is offering you a platform, very much like an attorney on direct will ask a question meant to speak directly to a jury. This should happen once or twice for emphasis, not every question.

2) You have a moderator or translator and you need to identify the source of the question, then let the moderator or translator know you are prepared to proceed. “That’s a very thoughtful question [name], and one that speaks to issues common to [function] of American and [your] government. If I may, I would answer by saying…”

Otherwise, I’m not aware of any purpose the device serves.

Obfuscation …

Nope, because after that, one person still remains. With dueling, you're all but guaranteed (given the firepower used), one of the participants will no longer be with us, and more times than not, that will be the liberal/progressive. Thin the herd.
