Done.

Thanks for the suggestions so far - keep 'em coming!

I've started to plan the route, and it seems like a pretty straight shot, thru PA, WV, OH, IN, IL, MO, OK, TX and NM. I'm looking at Interstates for the most part... 78/81/76 and 70 through PA, 70 til St Louis, then 44 to OK City and 40 the rest of the way. If you live or work on/near that route, and want to try for a rendezvous on the way out or the way back; or have local knowledge of places to avoid at all costs, please drop me a line! Email in profile.

Not sure if I'll have time for a stop in Pismo Beach...

LOL.

But 34 years on the other side of that fence tells me no.

Not by October anyhow.

I may get flamed for this, but if you want a quick casual meal, Blakes Lotaburger is a fast food regional biz.

Obviously it's not fine dining, but if you want a good Green Chile burger, stop in.

Sure, you want to hit the fancy places, or other darn good local restaurants, but if you just don't have much time, look for a Blakes.

And BTW, if you are a coffee drinker, try New Mexico Pinion Coffee. It's everywhere. (Trader Joes used to carry their coffee). I have been in their store and spent too much money, lol.

Disclaimer: I have no association with these 2 establishments, I just like their products. I usually go to Durango CO every year, and to CA twice a year, so I pass through Albuquerque and stop for these.

I've done two cross-country driving trips. I found planetware.com to give me a good enough list to do without overwhelming me and I pick and choose.

17 Top-Rated Attractions & Things to Do in Albuquerque

Then for food, I like going to places that have been featured on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive Ins & Dives. I've yet to be disappointed.

List of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives Episodes near Albuquerque, NM

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Blakes has good burgers. NM Pinon Coffee is all I drink at work. Great stuff.

ABQ? I'd hit up Sandia Tram and Old Town (I like Church St. Cafe). FYI, ABQ is /rough/.

Santa Fe? Georgia O'Keefe and Meow Wolf House of Eternal Return.
