I just got 'offered' a trip to the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta in October. The only catch is that I get to drive the chase van w/ trailer from and back to NJ. As a newly retired man of leisure, the time it takes won't bother me, and its been a looong while (40+ years) since I drove across the country.
I'm really looking forward to it!
Any members who live there with suggestions of what to see, and perhaps availability to meet up for a cold one, lunch, or the like?
The Fiesta runs from 2-10 October. I expect to be there a day or two earlier and would be leaving on the 11th.

Recommended by a member on another forum; I've detoured past Albuquerque lately upon a far less travelled road, or would have tried it by now:
Garcia’s Kitchen 1736 A Central Ave. SW, Albuquerque, NM 87104 505-242-1199
Only recommendation I have is that if you go to the Balloon Fest early (for the Dawn Patrol), dress warmly.

Santa Fe and Los Alamos aren't too far away. Albuquerque is not the best place.

As above, cable ride. Sandia Natl Park has good hiking. The city park is nice. There is an atomic museum that has a geiger counter that may have been Fermi's.

Great breweries in Albuquerque, take your pick marble brewery, Santa Fe brewing, bosque, LA cumbre or any others. Food wise get some pizza from Dion's. There is also a breaking bad tour if you liked the show. Enjoy balloon fiesta it's a great time.

It sure is!! I highly recommend this. Don't plan to blaze through it in an hour. To really see, and ponder, what is there, allow 2 or 3 hours. .

Been years since I was there, but The Range (cafe, I think) had some tasty huevos rancheros and a delicious cinnamon ice cream for dessert!
And ditto the Sandia cable ride. Have some fond girlfriend memories of that one!

I know a guy on another forum that worked for La Cumbre, we were doing beer mail often,
they do some really good beer,
he switched up to a cider house in town and I have not had any of it yet to say if it is good or not
According to Bugs Bunny, remember to turn left when you get there.
The old-timers will get it.

You might not have time to do much else. When you’re tired of the carnival food at the fiesta, try out the range, sadies, wecks, etc Make sure to see all the dawn patrols, mass ascensions, and night glows you can. It’s a crazy cool spectacle.

A trip to Santa Fe should be on your list. I'd suggest going to the gunshow, but our Fuhrer got it cancelled. She won't allow a gunshow in a state owned building. The nuclear museum is cool. For evening vittles, "El Pinto" 10500 4th st. Nw Lunch, breakfast, "Barelas coffee house" 1502 4th st Sw. "Old Town" albuquerque is nice and the rattlesnake museum is there. If you go to Santa Fe check out the staircase in the Loretto Chapel 207 old Santa fe trail. I won't be going to the balloons this year as I had other plans and you need proof of vaccine or an exemption letter and show a negative covid test. I'm sure youll enjoy the balloons it is something to see.
I did take a left turn at Albuquerque. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Greymann,

Become a high school chemistry teacher. I'll recommend skipping the part about "get cancer". Hook up with one of your old students. (Preferably one that says "bitch" a lot) Get an old Winnebago. Cook the best meth out there. Sell product. Get in with the Mexican Cartel. Become "the danger"! Launder money through a car wash or two.

Ron Peterson Guns used to be a good gunshop in Albuquerque. I haven’t been there in 20+ years though. He used to have a lot of good used stuff for sale. I’ve bought a couple of interesting “second-hand” guns from him: a Savage 1899 Carbine in .25-35 and a .222 Remington caliber Mini 14. Both priced pretty reasonable.

I would have to go to the Breaking Bad house and take a pic in front of it.
