TMatsDog Safety in the Truck Project
Tomorrow we're traveling for about 6 hours with our dog. She rides in the back seat area of our F150 crew, with the seats folded up. I got to thinking, if God forbid, we got into a serious accident, it wouldn't be good to have a 70# GSD hurtling around in the cab. Bad for her, certainly; maybe bad for us too.
I had an idea and did a fair amount of research, but apparently no-one has ever manufactured something like this. They sell dog harness that either buckles into a seat belt, or snaps to the car seat anchors between the cushions. that doesn't work for me.
I built this. The anchors are bolted to the floor at the rear seat bolts. I had to sew an extension to the harness belts because they don't sell them long enough for this application. The snap on the harness is just like the snap on a child car seat. It snaps to the D-ring.

Jester814 https://smile.amazon.com/gp/pr..._title?ie=UTF8&psc=1I use those with my dogs. Very similar but they just buckle right into the buckle instead of having to be bolted in.

But...the seats are folded up and my dog doesn’t sit on the back seat

bigdealVery nice. I've only see one person go further when he removed the rear seat from his F250 Crew Cab, built a custom platform over the area and installed Eye Bolts in the corners to which he attached his restraints. Did I mention he really, really loves his dogs.
