Some may remember a thread discussing the merits of various old and new cast iron pans. I ended up buying a seasoned Stargazer 10.5" pan which has proved amazing.

This weekend they're having a 30% off for verified active duty and veterans plus free shipping. That's the cheapest I've seen their pans to date. Good only until the end of the day Monday.

Very timely! I was searching posts yesterday looking for the names of those new age cast iron manufacturers and couldn't find them--just a great video of restoring cast iron.

Thanks much!

Kent Rollins has recently received a couple 2 or 3 of these newly manufactured excellent quality cast iron pans. You can see his videos on YouTube.

The Rollins' like the Field and Stargazer. The Field #8 runs $100 and the Stargazer $80/88. Both plus shipping.

With military discount and shipping my seasoned Stargazer ran me $84.80 August last year. Couldn't resist. Just bought a second seasoned Stargazer delivered for $61.60! Yes, they're that good! And FWIW the current pans have an embossed cast date and an even smoother "improved" finish over their earlier product (if that's even possible Big Grin) ( http://www.stargazercastiron.c...killet-announcement/ ).

Here's the info about the "improvements" (and yes I'm a huge fan!):

The 10.5-Inch Cast Iron Skillet Gets a Facelift

In addition to working on the development of the 12-inch cast iron skillet, we’ve also been working closely with our partner foundry to give the 10.5-inch one some spiffy new features (which will also be present on the 12-inch). We’ve already started to roll out these new features, so if you received a skillet from us recently, take a closer look! These features may be right in the palm of your hand.

Casting Date Code

Each of our cast iron skillets now has a date code cast into the underside of the helper handle, so you can see the exact date your prized possession was cast. So if you want to have a birthday party for your skillet every year, go for it… but then maybe try to make some new friends?

Since our cast iron skillet is built to last many lifetimes, this date code adds keepsake value as well. Years from now, when your great-great-great grandchildren are cooking in their kitchen (probably in a colony on Mars or something) they can look at this date code and think of what life must’ve been like WAY back when the skillet was cast… a simpler time…

“Smooth as a Safeway Chicken!” – Cowboy Kent Rollins

How smooth is a Safeway chicken? We have no idea but this is one smooth skillet. We’ve made some changes to both the casting and finishing processes of our skillet to improve the surfaces inside and out:

Satin-smooth cooking surface – Our cooking surface now boasts a superior finish for stronger seasoning adherence and less maintenance. You’re already fussy enough, you need a skillet that just gets the job done.

Improved exterior finish – Wait until you get your paws on these. Go ahead, don’t be shy. They are more comfortable in the hand and easier to clean.

Thanks for the heads-up! I have one on the way! I was at a antique show last weekend and picked up a very nice, smooth Griswold 8" fry pan and 10" griddle...very nice.

The Stargazer will fit in very well to the collection.

Plus, we are buying a house with a 6-burner gas stove...I can't wait to use my CI on it!

Thank you for the heads up! I ordered three for Father's Day gifts. It came out to three pans for the price of two.

I ordered one of these and screwed up the discount. An e-mail to the company got a personal reply and an immediate credit. Hats off to Stargazer for great service, looking forward to getting the pan.
