Desk Repair/Refinish Advice
I have a desk in my office that is in no way, shape or form, fine furniture nor does it warrant a full refinish.

It is functional and serves it's purpose but I have noticed on the top it has some places where the finish has come off and there are some shallow "ruts" that seem to be getting worse.

I am thinking about just doing a light sanding and then applying a few coats of some kind of polyurethane to breathe some new life into it but i am not sure this is the correct approach?

Probably the easiest and should be effective if you sand it well. May want to restain the top before putting the poly on.

I prefer the "real" polyurethane as opposed to the water-based stuff. I think it's more durable.



Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

Sand with low high grit paper (80-100)to get all the big stuff off, then maybe go 150, then 220.

Wipe the dust off, and before you apply stain, put wood conditioner on it so the stain(if you use stain) gets soaked up evenly. Then add some poly.
