Looking for a Toyota Yaris
I know this is a bit of a long shot but I'm going to try here. Looking for a Yaris from a particular generation.
The Yaris I'm looking for looks like this:

-

The hatch has the same front end.

Not this "Yaris" because it's the Mazda 2 with a Toyota badge:

-

I am not looking for the "Yaris iA" since these are really just Mazda 2 sedans with a Scion/Toyota badge.

Prefer the sedan version of the Yaris not the hatchback if possible. But I'm open to either type if the condition is good.

I'm looking for that $500 to $2,000 diamond in the rough. I'm going to the open market because these cars really hold their value and I don't want to pay $6k-$12k for a 15 year old car (unless it's a Lexus)... I know these are older vehicles and will have 200+ thousand miles on them but that's ok with me for the right car. The 1.5L engine and old school 4 speed auto transmission are legandary regarding reliablity so high mileage does not bother rme.

I'm hoping someone out there has a friend/neighbor/co-worker etc. whom you know that the person takes car of his/her car.

I live in the DC metro area and am willing to travel a reasonable distance for the right vehicle.

Prefer vehicles from more temperate southern climates away from all the snow and salt. The one issue with this generation Yaris is rust on the bolts that hold the subframes together.

Email is in profile.

Thanks!

The Car Care Nut once described the car you are seeking as the best car Toyota ever made.

So what years were this particular variation made? It might help those of us looking…

A quick check on car gurus pulled up several…

A quick Google suggests that the true (non-Mazda) Yaris was offered in the US in a couple different generations from 2006-2018, originally as both a sedan and a hatchback, but from 2013-2018 only as a hatchback.

The rebadged Mazda2/Yaris IA was offered from 2016-2020 as a sedan and later hatchback, and became the sole Yaris available starting in 2019.

So it appears that the OP should skip any Yaris "IA" or any post-2018 Yaris altogether, but a pre-2019 and non-IA Yaris ought to be a genuine Toyota.

You need to alter your expectations on price. Working in Car sales, 2000 won't get you anything decent.

Yep. You're going to struggle to find any car (Yaris or not) that's worth a damn these days for $2000, let alone $500. Those days are gone.

I recently helped a friend find a decent $5k car for her teenage daughter, and that even was a challenge.

Using the links in smlsig's post, the two cheapest options for a Yaris were both 2007s, one with with 230k+ miles asking $5000, and one with 310k+ miles and multiple accidents asking $3500.
