Told cops where to go for over 29 years…

Retired last July, turned 62 in February, got my first SS check this week.

Have reached gov’t freeloader/fixed income senior status. Been a long time coming, and there were times I wasn’t sure I’d make it.

Once the weather dries out looking forward to telling pesky neighborhood folks to ”Get off my lawn!”

All you youngin’s keep slaving away, I appreciate your contributions and will make a deal with you - support no tax on SS benefits and I’ll support no tax on OT and tips.

Congrats, I think most people wait too long to start getting SS. I will also be taking mine at 62.

Welcome to the club and congratulations. If you don't have one, you need to pick up an M1 for the "Get off my lawn" thing. Smile

Way to go, 911.

I retired at 59 and started my SS when I signed up for medicare at 65, even though 66 was considered the age for "full SS". Medicare is what saved me a ton of money.

Made sense for me, math shows the “break even point” seems to be about 80ish, and the 62-65 years are more important to me than a few hundred more bucks a month at that point.

That’s the next big landmark for us, at that point SS and state retirement should cover almost everything and the 401k is “comfort money”.

Sure is! Keeping busy still, just doing stuff I want to do for the most part instead of working for the man.

I’ve got an M1A, it’ll have to do now. Commie WA probably doesn’t allow it’s subjects an M1.

You paid into the SS all your working life so I don't consider you being on "gubberment teat".

I’ll file for SS here in about 3 months since I want it when I turn 62 in October. How long does it take to receive first check?

I'm a few years away from the club, but I don't consider anyone who paid into the system for decades on the government teat.

I do support picking up an M1, that's a club I need to join!

I have a few SIGs.

I know you're kidding about the government teat and congratulations. But you're sucking back some of the milk that they've been taking from you all your working years. Social Security is certainly an entitlement that you earned.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Congratulation Boss.

All Of my 70 years in which I was old enough to remember…
I have heard…

“There won't be any money left in SS by the time I retire…
I’ll never see a dime”

Yet here we are!

Enjoy!

Endeavor to persevere.

Congratulations. I started SS when I turned 62. Some of my friends and family who are financial experts moaned that I should have waited to some other magical age. My reply which shuts them up is "There is no guarantee I will live that long."
Enjoy and have a wonderful retirement.
