They need to repeal the law that pays .Gov Employees when furloughed. If they are going to get paid for sitting at home, we as tax payers should expect them to do their jobs and earn that back pay.

Trump is the boldest President we've ever had, and I've heard he's talking about using a shutdown to decimate the rolls of Federal employees, while showing the Country that Schumer and the dems are at fault.

Between this and his full-on hard stance, calling for federal troops to protect ICE/BP, this will be the "Fundamental Change" the dems will get!

Seems like two tom turkeys that see each other in a field:

A lot of squawking, flapping, plenty of racket, putting on a show...

Nothing happens and it will all magically go away at the last minute.

Just more drama and BS to distract us from something else.

Hey, look! a UFO!...

If they do shut down, it would be nice to see a DOGE caliber budget restructuring.

I truly hope there is a shutdown.

We the citizens of this nation should not be paying anything to promote illegal aliens to live here; nor should we pay for PBS when they are no longer relevant.

Yes, I am a federal employee (purchase card holder for a hydroelectric dam, so I purchase parts to keep the dam running, and thus inexpensive truly renewable electricity).

I think the government shutting down is complete BS. It makes the U.S. look weak to all of the other countries.

I don't think the government employees should stop working if they're guaranteed to get paid anyways. It inconveniences a lot of people.

This is an opportunity to shutdown duplication in .gov:
  • There is an astounding amount of duplication in health. As we learned in COVID, CDC and NIAID both cover infectious diseases.
  • There are several dozen government programs and several government agencies managing the programs to feed the "poor."

Not paying federal employees only hurts federal employees, not the assholes in congress. To them it’s just another vacation.

First change that should be made is adding senators and reps to the list of folks that don’t get paid.

Another one their “this law won’t apply to me” rules is they still get paid on time during the shutdowns.

Secondly, no “back pay” for the shut down period. If you ain’t working, you don’t get paid and when you go back to work you don’t get paid for the shut down days unless you use your vacation time.

Everyone talks about what big deal it is, but if everyone gets their money eventually it isn’t a big deal. Just an inconvenience.

I’m tired of congress not doing g their job. CR after CR and just keep kicking an actual budget down the road.

No budget? No congressional pay until there is one. They haven’t represented “We the People” in decades, the only thing they represent is their own power, profit, and interests. Until that changes, I don’t imagine much else will.

While I’d love to see the mass layoffs, I’m sure the cronies will block it.

Their Congressional salaries are only 10 to 20 percent of their income.

What would really hurt the Congressional Critters is if gov't shutdowns would furlough their congressional staffers. Nobody tracking insider trading for them, nobody lining up ghost writers for their biographies, nobody arranging kickbacks from lobbyists, nobody arranging graft for their spouses/children/siblings, nobody arranging rides to/from the DC cocktail circuit, etc.

Layoffs or furloughs? Can you please provide the OPM citation that says Federal employees will be laid off?

There is nothing I love more than a government shutdown. it means they're not busy passing new laws and rules to disrupt my existence.

Just for fun, Trump should announce that the only things he will sign are 12 separate appropriations bills.

My mistake, it was OMB. I cant correct the OP without resetting the poll.

    Key paragraph from the memo:

    quote:
With respect to those Federal programs whose funding would lapse and which are otherwise unfunded, such programs are no longer statutorily required to be carried out. Therefore, consistent with applicable law, including the requirements of 5 C.F.R. part 351, agencies are directed to use this opportunity to consider Reduction in Force (RIF) notices for all employees in programs, projects, or activities (PPAs) that satisfy all three of the following conditions: (1) discretionary funding lapses on October 1, 2025; (2) another source of funding, such as H.R. 1 (Public Law 119-21) is not currently available; and (3) the PPA is not consistent with the President’s priorities.

I have always thought they should change the law so that elected officials do NOT get paid for the time the govt is shut down period. No back pay for them. Failure to to work on the issue during the shutdown would be considered as a resignation from office.
That would give them an incentive to resolve the issue before it happens.

It hurts the taxpayer who ends up paying them back pay for work they never did. When I was working as a contractor to Feds, we did not get paid or get back pay.
