My "furry girlfriend" has crossed the Rainbow Bridge
Earlier today my friend contacted me to tell me that her Dachshund Lacy had passed away last night. I immediately went over, held her in my lap, said my goodbyes and laid her to rest in her backyard, crying like a baby the entire time. For reasons I never figured out she was nuts about me, and I her, hence the moniker "furry girlfriend". She was 11 years old with some heart issues, so this wasn't totaly unexpected, still, when it happens it's a real blow. Needless to say I am crushed. A couple of photos;

This is from a couple of years ago during a nap.

This is her nametag. Many years ago my friend had a Dachshund named Jennifer, she wasn't my dog, but apparently I was her human and where I sat she was in my lap. When she passed away my friend let me have her nametag to keep on my keychain, Lacy's nametag is right nex to it.

My apologies for the long post.

That's always hard. No matter how many times one experiences it, it never gets easier.

I even refused to read the entire rainbow bridge poem until our last doggo left us to meet on the other side.

Sorry to hear that Club. I went through this myself on June 3 with Bandit and I was a wreck.

I’m fortunate to have had thousands of great days and just one bad day with her. Still getting over it but I think of her every day. Her paw print in a clay medallion is with me on my trips.

Oh, well. Our pets do bring a lot of joy into our lives. My wife and I joke about our 11-year old mini poodles. I would say something like, “I went to see how to make arrangements at the crematory for Layla and Lulu. Fifty dollars each but we have to wait until they’re dead first.” Maybe it’s to help steel us for when the inevitable comes.

Sorry for your loss.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Sorry for your loss. We let them into our lives knowing we will likely outlive them.

Please accept my sincere condolences.

Lacy looks like an adorable, kind and loving pup in that photo.

What a lovely girl.

A reminder that I've been neglecting my girl most of the day while busy. Lacy has corrected my behavior even though mine's a cat.
