The shit leftards strike again. Apparently, naming birds after humans may "cause pain to people", so they're renaming them. Goodbye Steller's Jay, Cooper's Hawk, etc.
Im a birder, and during my time in the hobby, they’ve renamed some of the birds already. Before i got into it, i also had no idea how long ago the bird names were given until i studied a particular bird.
Me, being a staunch conservative, this change for the reasons given, are ridiculously laughable. I could see a change for the Hitler heron, Hussein harrier, Sirhan Sirhan stork, etc, but there isn’t anything this obviously bad. It is just another lefty move to further their nutty world view.
I’m not going to cry and stomp about it since there is no one to cry to. Few people bird, and fewer people really care…the birds don’t care.

All I know is when I hear Nuthatches while deer hunting, good things happen. For some reason it has become my good luck charm, the distinctive nasally tweet.
OK, maybe add the ‘Dickcissel’ to the list to rename. I could list others.
And as Dennis Prager says, “EVERYTHING the Left touches, it destroys.”
"If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Not just on the easy ones; you take the tough ones too…” – MAJ Richard D. Winters (1918-2011), E Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil... Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 5:20,24
While I would not call myself a birder, I enjoy watching birds at our feeders. I make an effort to try a learn the names of the birds that feed in my area. The names will remain the same for me.
Besides, it will take any naming body 10 years of debate and navel gazing to determine the new names.
Let me help you out. Which way did you come in?

That's because the American Ornithological Society has vowed to change the English names of all bird species currently named after people, along with any other bird names deemed offensive or exclusionary.
^^^ So who put these clowns in charge of "bird names"?

When they get around to tree names they can bypass the Tree of Heaven, it’s already known as the Ghetto Palm around here.
