I am fairly new to the rural life and I have never seen this item in my life. The only place I see them is on one certain road that I rarely take.

I was told that there could be atmospheric / weather instruments under that cover.

What kind was not known.

Ages ago a nearby farmer would visit it on a regular basis and log data on a clip board.
Then
Call the data in.

I would have thought by now
They would be able to
Use telemetry to convey the information

Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency.

That must be it. Some good guesses but this isn't the only one. They are spaced maybe 300 feet apart and probably 10 of them along the same road. Very weird.

Temperature sensors should be covered but ventilated, putting a pressure cooker over top of any environmental sensors makes no sense.

Based on the field next to it I’m guessing it’s related to a dry hydrant type watering system. The farm behind me has a similar system; large water sprayers can be hooked up and system is then pressurized. The connectors are covered to prevent muck and stuff getting into the system, but I’ve never seen one like that. That one looks um, custom. Like, I have a broken piping cover and a canner I don’t use type of custom.

Be very careful about the cake as we have a cake with a strange design that shows up from time to time ......... definitely not a desirable design. Pickle Rick!!!!
