IKEA Has DOUBLED Price Of A Couch Since 2019
This is just crazy, that's beyond inflation and higher wages. This is just plain gouging now. Roll Eyes

I used to be a big fan of IKEA with one not far from where I work but it just dawned on me I haven't set foot in there in 4-5 years now:

IKEA customers are left horrified after discovering it has DOUBLED price of a couch since 2019 (but you still have to build it yourself!)

quote:

--Jilian Dee, from Los Angeles, went viral after investigating the price hike

--She stitched @loljustmark's video about the Finnala sofa costing $1,599

--Jilian pulled out a stack of old catalogs and found the couch cost $799 in 2019

Wayfair, Big Lots and Ashley are the alternatives.

I was in the Yooper Ashleys not long ago in search of a new bed. Everything I looked at was Chinese made. And seemed pretty flimsy too. Does Ikea sell Chinese stuff?

All I know is they are smoking crack if they think people are going to pay $1,599 for a couch they have to put together themselves.

If you ask me it looks like IKEA has forgotten their mission; to provide reasonably priced household items that cost much more elsewhere.

Back when I shopped there regularly 10-15 years ago it seemed like a whole lot of their stuff came out of Eastern Europe like Poland and Czech Republic etc. Maybe they got priced out of there and are now using Chicom junk. I'm pretty sure all the kitchen cabinets I put in my kitchen renovation in my condo were made in Poland and they seemed well-made for what they were; melamine covered particle board.

Just got a Viair air compressor and those have doubled in price in four years. Like most everything, expect our salaries. Haven't seen the GOP doing much more than whine occasionally.

So has the price of the pickup truck you need to haul it home.

The price of most things hasn’t doubled. Gold hasn’t doubled. The market hasn’t doubled. As far as alternatives go a Wayfair delivery driver recently dumped his load of empty boxes in the street near me. The customers phone number on a label helped me get the ball rolling on a cleanup. Wayfair is also embroiled in accusations that they are trafficking children via astronomical prices on mundane items with a missing child’s first name and age as the name of the item.

Fake News...I'm gonna call bullshit on that one! I purchased a Viair 87P Portable Compressor on 11/28/18 (so over 5 years ago!) for $54.95, and it's currently selling for $77.37 on Amazon, so 'only' a 40.8% increase!

It a great compressor by the way...Amazon's Choice! Wink

True though, the GOP isn't doing shit for us despite all their campaign rhetoric! In the meantime, gas is up 50% since DJT was in office (had doubled at one point though!), my electricity rate is up 112%, my Natural Gas rate increased 88%, and basically EVERYTHING else is up 30-50%...What's not to like? Not everything. We got some metal bunk beds for our boys 10+ years ago. It has been a great purchase and is still going strong. But yes, they do have a lot of cheap stuff.

Most of the stuff we've bought from Ikea has held up decently.

Can't say I'd buy metal framed furniture again. Our King bedframe has gotten squeaky & loose over the years, despite my efforts to isolate the loose & rubbing areas.

A lot of it is what my dad termed 'temporary furniture', but they have some decent stuff.

Price and quality aside, IKEA couches are so low you might as well sit on the floor on stadium chair and pillow.

Yeah, prices seem to be on the rise everywhere, not just at IKEA. I guess it's just the way things are going these days.
I recently bought this sofa, and while it wasn't from IKEA, it still cost me a bit, $2000. But you get what you pay for. Mine's custom-made with a kiln-dried solid wood frame, so I'm hoping it'll last me a good while. Quality does come at a price.

For $1599 it had better assemble itself. Roll Eyes

I was reading this yesterday, it's a chart of what we've all seen but for some reason are told isn't happening, or if it is it's a good thing.

You think 2008 was bad, just wait until the repercussions start hitting from the backlash of higher prices causing the public to stop buying.

It's going to be a bloodbath.

Red Lobster is the first victim and they were already struggling. McDonalds is square in the sights of consumers and we are merciless.
