Stepped off of the deck into the grass barefooted . Something I never do . Ever . Big mistake . STICKERS !!! I ended up with two large stickers in my foot. Too fat and too blind to dig them out myself . This morning I told my wife to get everything she needed for minor surgery cuz those damn things had to GO . We went out on the deck and I threw my leg up on the table and told her to have at it . About 20 minutes later she had them out . Yeah , in the grand scheme of things a couple of stickers don't seem like much but damn they can make life miserable ..

I keep a pair of cheap flip-flops at both my front door and back door, for just that reason. I stepped on a piece of glass in my front yard several years back, while walking barefoot through the yard to check the mail, and digging it out of my foot was a major pain in the assfoot!

I don't go barefoot in Florida. Between the stickers (we call them sand spurs), fire ants, and bushy stinging caterpillars, this place will tear up your feet.
I almost never wear sandals on the grass either.

I made the flip-flop mistake at my dad's Got a sticker between my big toe & the thong bit that goes between the toes. Near-instant paralysis.
To piggyback off the 'why do you carry a knife' thread. The Kershaw quickly extracted the offender. I now wear closed shoes at my dad's place.

You will if you ever walk on Sawgrass. Common in the Miami area.

Years ago, I did the same thing, but it was too deep for me to get out, and believe me, I tried. I dug deep enough with a sharp knife that I realized I was doing more damage than good and I could still feel the glass in there. Doc used a core punch and took a chunk out of my foot about 3mm in diameter. Took forever to heal.
So between that fond memory and growing up in the desert where everything wants to kill you, including the plant life, I don't go outside barefoot.

Goatheads keep people from walking barefoot around these parts.

Surprisingly the process was nearly painless . It was a good thing . I'm a weenie when it comes to people poking around on me with needles ..

These evil things?
Being from Fla, we call them Sand Spurs.
Is that what you mean when you say “stickers” or “goat heads”

Yes, those are our sand spurs. They suck. I swear, those things are alive, and have malignant intent. I believe that they have the ability to jump up and stick themselves in you.
If I'm outside on anything but hard pavement or the beach, it's fully enclosed shoes.

Being from El Paso, those are what we called “sand spurs.” These are “goat heads”:
We got one in the laundry room a few months ago. I found it in the usual way. Sand spurs suck, but these things are the devil’s caltrops. God help you if you step on one of these and the thorn breaks off in your foot.

As kids we would break off the stalk holding a batch of spurs and throw them at each other
