I'm re-roofing a 1 story property that's 38 squares. What brand and model dimensional shingles are the best to go with? I'm most concerned about wind resistance. This is in South Florida so no snow, but high heat year round.

I know you asked about shingles are we talking architectural never heard of dimensional? Being that I am in Hurricane alley it is the installation that matters. There are roofs here where they do not remove the old felt or check for bad decking, Prices should go down some at the end of November, Wind rating is bullshit too as some of the shingles blow off in a stiff breeze. Be there when it is done.

Owens Corning has their "Cool Roof" series - it has insulation built into it. This helps to reduce the load on the insulation below it.

Just do not get the Contractors Special. Owens Corning is fine just go up several grades from the cheapest. Again it is the quality of the labor. One way they cheat is to put in fewer nails per shingle which obviously cuts down on time. See what the warranty is and how long. Some just cover the shingles it is up to you to install it. Good luck and send us a picture,

A year and a half or so ago, and on smlsig’s recommendation, I went with GAF’s Timberline UHDZ, installed by a GAF Master Elite contractor.

I thought I would never see the day to have roofers who were elite master roofing contractors. Someone is making some marketing money here and it is not the roofer. {Not being critical of you just thought how all contractors are now elite or professional}

Down here the roofers are getting rich. My good buddy is doing the job with his roofing company from 2 hours away, for literally 60% of the price of the local companies and includes permits and everything replaced.

I think it’s a regional thing. Architectural and Dimensional shingles are the same thing.

Here where I live all they are referred to are dimensional, two hours north they are referred to as Architectural.

Kind of of like Girl Scout Cookies some places call them Somoas and other places call them Coconut Delights yet they are the exact same cookie.

Why shingles? Why not a steel roof? There are many options with steel and specific ones for Miami-Dade wind loading requirements along with impact resistance.

I’d ask your insurer for recommendations to cut your liability costs. Also ensure your roof structure is amply braced.

Aluminum, not steel. Standing seam to allow rigity Epoxied on the seam , screws on the flat.
Much better wind resistance but 3x cost.

I'm in TX not FL but we do get very high winds, hail, and 100+ degree temps. I went with Tamko StormFighter shingles and have been pleased. Like anything, proper installation is necessary.
