Just because something is legal to do doesn't mean it is the smart thing to do.

That's one of them.

There was a thread recently asking what it meant to me to be an American. I didn't answer because I didn't want to cheapen the meaning with a frail description. Now I say this is what it means.

I was a little irritated with the people posing for pictures with him like he was a an attraction but I really liked the veteran who stood in front of him and saluted him back and the bugler that played Taps beside him.

I wonder where that little fella is 6 years later.

Tough not to be impressed or to not remember the sacrifices of the men he evoked.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Most of us reading this thread, would have stood next to him and saluted with him.

And I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I'd gladly stand up next to you
And defend Her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt
I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

Thanks, Lee Greenwood.
Mike

I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. -Ecclesiastes 9:11
