Not loving this accelerated pace.
Game feels rushed.

Yep, stupid rule. I can live without the shift, pitch clock is dumb.

We’ve been so accustomed to abnormally long games in the modern era, that we’ve forgotten that baseball games should be around two hours long. Now, they are 3+ hours on average!

Go back and rewatch or listen to games in the 1960’s or 1950’s, the pitch clock is taking us back to the right way of playing.

I don’t think the overall length of the game is impacted by slow pitchers as much as it is by the use of specialty relief pitchers. I believe that was addressed last season?

Here’s hoping the Asterisks suck (sorry Dusty, it’s something you inherited) and the Dodgers aren’t allergic to October!

There’s a really good article:

https://sabr.org/journal/artic...-games-take-so-long/

There’s about a 10-12% increase in pitches since 1945, which is a major component in the length of games, but nowhere near enough to account for the 50%+ increase in time. Sadly, we have no significance data before 2008, but the data we do have attributes nearly ALL of the change to time between pitches.

Here’s a quote for the article (and remember, we already had significant long games in 1984!):
quote:
Grant Brisbee published an intriguing article at sbnation.com in which he did an extraordinarily detailed analysis of two comparable games, one from 1984, the other from 2014, which were available on YouTube.4 The more recent game was over 30 minutes longer and Brisbee’s biggest conclusion is that he felt it was due to “lollygagging” by both pitchers and batters.

commercials between innings add to length of the game but they pay the bills.
