I think that is an important point. That which comes too easily we esteem too lightly. Then there is the "soft bias" of low expectations. If a school did adopt this policy, they might attract and graduate more Black students. But the degrees would have little or no value in the workplace.

A college degree used to mean that the applicant was at least diligent and motivated enough to get through four years of education with a good GPA and some other accomplishments (internships, community leadership roles, etc), which would be used to try and assess whether they would be worth the risk of hiring. Give everyone a free ride and virtually guaranteed graduation, and business will have no basic yard stick with which to measure students for job opportunities. Its hard enough right now in the current environment to try and find decent candidates for open entry level positions.
