I have a 2024 GMC Sierra HD 3500. I'm looking at bed covers for storing things securely and keeping crap out while parked. I'm just wondering what you all like or don't like. A few things:

1. I would like to maximize bed storage
2. Security is an issue so a soft cover is out
3. I don't want a one piece cover because I want to be able to remove and store it easily when transporting my motorcycles
4. I don't want something that bangs up against the cab of the truck if I get something that is foldable.
5. Rack compatible.

I have a BAKflip MX4. It’s been outstanding. Easy to install-took less than 45 minutes by myself.

It did get dented during the tornado last year and the replacement only took a few minutes as we reused the rails.

I have n F150.

It does fold but there’s a rubber baby buggy bumper you stick in place to keep from it smacking the cap. Also there is a strap on both sides so you can limit how far it leans towards the cab.

I put a Bakflip on my 2008 Ridgeline first thing. It's been trouble free for 17 years and still looks good. I installed it myself and if it was damaged beyond repair I'd replace with the same.

He told me that there is no such thing as a "secure"
Tonneau type cover.


Never leave anything of value in the bed.
Especially if you are ever staying at a hotel/ motel.

+1 on this plus it sits flat and just looks better than most.

I am in the market for a cover myself in the near term. My 4wd shop told me that Realtruck now owns all 4/5 of the major brands. I think he priced the BAKflip for me when I asked him to quote me what he would buy for himself. But I played around with the Undercover in his showroom. It seemed comparable and pretty solid to me. I liked it.

I would buy a backflip. You can jump up and down on it and it doesn’t give.

The Diamondback cover fits all of your stated requirements. I have one on my truck and it’s been the best cover I’ve ever had.

Non of the roll-up options. Just get one that flips backwards.

The roll-ups, now matter how sturdy or well designed will have a drain hose, but that won’t eliminate solid waste from accumulating in the box.

Garage kept will only slow the build up.

Wasn’t happy with the one version I had, which was well made, they just never solve this simple problem.

My most recent tonneau cover purchase was a Roll-N-Lock.

Was able to find one in a junkyard for almost nothing (okay it was like $26 nothing).

It was about ten years old judging by the truck at the time and it still held up well. The website says I'm supposed to be able to walk across the thing while holding a cylinder head, but I haven't been inspired to do such a thing.

It has held up well and remains solid after 12 or so years. If you plan to keep yours for any amount of time and would be worried about material degradation or color fading, give Roll-N-Lock a look. The keys & lock can be changed out if needed and it is held securely in place by 26 fasteners (some drilling may be required). Mine is a flush mount design.

I was able to see a minimal increase in fuel economy, but then again, I didn't get a truck for fuel economy.

Diamondback is expensive but worth every penny for me.

I’ve also been very pleased with my Roll N Lock.

I’m very happy with my Peragon retractable tonneau cover which I’ve had for a couple years now.

I was able to install it myself, although a 2nd person would have made it even easier.

It folds back into the bed, so it doesn’t obstruct the view to the rear, and it is easily removed/reinstalled if you need the last few inches of bed length for something. It’s not completely water-tight, but part of that is my GMC MultiPro tailgate which has extra seams in which water can enter the box. Still, even through an automatic car wash with high pressure jets, there’s not much water that gets in.

Mine is the Classic, but there are a couple higher-level models.

On my old truck I had a Leer hard shell lid that was very water tight and secure, but severely limited the use of the bed for large objects. That’s why with my new truck (in 2022) I got the Peragon. I’d buy another Peragon if I ever replaced my truck.
