jigray3Odd Problem With Forum Posting - No Nines or Colons
When trying to post a reply on my Macbook, if I type the number nine I get a dash. For instance::::::::::: 1234567890. I also can't type a colon::::. This issue seems limited to SIGForum posts.
I feel like I inadvertently changed a setting or something. I bet it's a simple fix.
Anyone?

jigray3Okay, so when I actually click the post button, the nine appears, but there is a sequence of colons or something I did not type. Wierd.
I'm going to try to type a colon and see what shows up in the published post

jigray3There it is, but in the dialog box when I actually type it, I see nothing.

joel9507I'd bet it's a browser or system issue. Maybe close the browser and reboot?

jigray3I typically use Firefox, just tried Chrome, same issue. I also tried a reboot, but no change. I'll try again.

smschulzAre you on a laptop that has those pesky function keys that do different shit?
Are you on Windows 10 and tried to use the on-screen keyboard?
Could it be a keyboard malfunction?

He said this occurs only when posting on SIGforum.

EasyFireI just had a similar problem. In my signature I have a URL pointing to a website, but in Sigforum when I selected it, both Google and MS Edge took me to a different area.
Finally fixed it by deleting my cache, then rebooting.
Hope this helps.

EponymIf the above don't resolve the problem, I suggest you select and copy the entire message before you post it, then paste it into NotePad. See what nine or colon characters are shown there.

mikeyspizzaThe 9 problem is related to the 9mm vs. whatever debate.

maladatIf it looks funny in the text box on Sigforum, but when you copy and paste it out to another program and it's suddenly, magically back to normal, it sounds like a font issue, but I'm not sure how to resolve it.

henryaz What is your default text encoding setting (Safari Preferences/Advanced/Default encoding). You might play around with that, see if setting Western (ISO Latin 1) or Unicode (UTF-8) makes any difference.

jigray3So, I tried clearing cache, no joy.
A new clue. Interestingly, the problem also appears in Chrome, but not in Safari.

My wife had a weird problem with Chrome that only showed up when logged into
Practice Fusion (a cloud-based app used by health care providers).
I deleted Chrome from her computer and downloaded a new copy. No joy, the problem was still there. I then dug through a bunch of stuff buried in the Chrome documentation and help files, to completely remove all of the "crumbs" that Chrome scatters around, and reinstalled Chrome once more. That solved the problem.

kkinaYou may have duplicate copies of the font Helvetica. Go to the "Font Book.app" on your Mac (in the Applications folder) and scroll down to the Helvetica fonts. Choose them one by one and see if a message appears saying you have multiple copies of the font. If so, click on "solve automatically".
