I like President Garfield's - a rare use of a trapezoid. What say you?

You had it coming!

Thanks for the diversion. It feels good to be silly occasionally.

I'd never seen Garfield's proof before. For some reason, I find Bhaskaras's first proof to be most elegant! I suppose that's because just from examination, it's intuitively correct.

One of my NC State math profs. (circa 1960's) said that many (most?, all?) of the simpler algebraic theorems could be proven geometrically. The quantity A + B squared = A squared + 2AB + B squared being an easy example.

I must admit I had not seen any of those proofs before. I have usually seen Euclid's proof (sometimes labeled the "Bride's Chair" proof). I must admit the dissection proofs are a lot easier to follow. Garfield's is interesting, but it does require the formula for area of a trapezoid--of course, that can also be derived easily by dissection.

OK, I'll bite--what's with "Blueberry" and the dish of pudding?
