All of your devices need a good wireless signal.
Previous Time Warner worked on 1st floor.

Why can't you run the AT&T feed to the 1st floor??

Have AT&T feed enter close to the one spot in the basement to snake a line upstairs.
Or--have AT&T enter the 1st floor in a central location--where Time Warner entered.

As good as an Orbi system in. I got bit by the Netgear pathetic tech service when the latest firmware bricked two nodes. They hit the trash seconds after I was told I was SOL and couldn’t be retroflashed

That stated. I’m going to toss a brand out that gets little attention for consumer grade networking. Ubiquiti…….. or rather AMPLIFI for prosumers. I have switched over to 3 of the aliens in a metal, rebar reenforced concrete block “faraday” house and it’s never had signal strength consistent or as stable. Im very impressed with them. Not inexpensive is only drawback

Thanks all. So I think I will end up giving the access point a try. I need to take another look at the modem/router as I can't remember off hand how many spots it has for wired, but I might just leave the downstairs as is and only work on the main floor.

Thanks, mainly due to the layout of the house and the finished basement. The cable line comes in on the north east corner/frony of the house right into the main floor livingroom and the ATT comes from the phone line on the south side/back of the house into the basement.
I already have a coax running from the main floor down through the floor into the downstairs bedroom and I can run a cat6 line right with that.
The only way I could get the ATT stuff upstairs is to run another phone line instead of the cat6, but that would put me right where I was with the old setup and not have any good coverage downstairs again.

We moved into a 3,500 2 story house, router on first floor. We tried the repeaters, configuration wasn't fun, and the service was spotty. Switched to Google mesh, 1 base and two satellites and we have seamless internet access throughout the house and on the back porch.
