Fox or coyote ID?

trapper189Fox or coyote ID?
My son took the picture last night at 9:35pm. It’s one of those "Live" pictures and the last frame shows a fairly long snout which along with the length of the legs leads me to believe it’s a coyote. But, two night ago we saw a fox run up the beach on the house side of the river towards the house where this picture was taken and a minute later, the fox ran back the other way. This was well after sunset so I couldn’t see the color of its fur, but the short legs and snout, big ears, and bushy tail as long as it’s body were a dead give away.

gearhoundsLooks like a fox- the black lower legs are a giveaway to me.

trapper189My son just woke up and he had a better picture:
I think it is the fox. The legs seem disproportionate to the body though. Overall, it’s way too small to be a coyote.

BeancookerThat is definitely a Fox. We have coyotes everywhere around here, and that is definitely NOT a coyote.
Coyotes don’t have as long of a body. The legs are too short for a coyote. The tail is far too bushy for a coyote (some have bushy-ish tails, but not anything like that), the face/snout is too long and narrow looking for a coyote.

bigpond73Definitely a fox. We have a little red one that visits everyday here to get a drink from the bird water.
Here is an older, and fuzzy picture of one of our little foxes:

DennisMNot carrying an ACME shopping bag. Therefore, a fox.
Just kidding. It is a fox, though.

DaBigBRIt's a fox. Head shape, mask, coloring, and tail are all very obvious.

ArtieSYup, I'm on team fox. Yotes are bigger and heavier.

Black92LXThat is a Fox for sure. Its legs aren’t disproportional to the body. It’s a bit of an optical illusion because the black on the legs goes so far up the hind quarters. Which is a little unusual.
Kind of seems to be a bit of a cross between a red and grey fox.
Grey foxes usually don’t have solid black legs like that and red foxes do but he has very little red to him. Just a touch of red on the belly and neck.

Sig ViciousThis is a coyote. The legs are generally the same color as the torso and the tail is smaller (not as fluffy).
Caught this one on my TrailCam 20 feet from my Mom's backdoor, at 3:30 in the afternoon.

mcrimmFox - We see lots of coyotes in our neighborhood. I've seen 10 of them within 50' of my car when driving near my home and have them 20' from my back fence captured on a game cam. Fox.
I'm sorry if I hurt you feelings when I called you stupid - I thought you already knew - Unknown

skepticI disagree with the consensus, although it sounds like all responding have a valid opinion.
Foxes have shorter V shaped snouts. Also rounder vs. taller ears. Both can have bushy tails.. foxes have shorter legs and are more compact. Coyotes can look lean/and or mangy. Fox seem to make a better living. All in my experience and HO.
