Nature is full of magnificent creatures |
I've seen discussions here before where members have commented on white noise machines. Do you have a favorite that also makes the sounds of ocean waves? It would be nice to have volume control and some variety. Rain sounds, for example. Thank you for your help.

We never use anything but the white noise sounds. The water sounds make me want to pee. The digital versions of nature are repetitive which gets annoying. The digital versions of white noise also have some strange patterns that start to emerge. These patterns sound like someone whispering and can keep you awake. We prefer the analog versions. This one is my choice: MARPAC Dohm-DS Dual Speed Electro-Mechanical White Noise Machine / Sound Machine for Sleeping at Home & Travel https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002...cp_api_pfoAAbGSSJMJ6

I buy those "single room air filter" things and just take the filter out and let them run 24/7. great white noise. There is an app for phone/ipad called "white noise" got lots of sounds. — Pissed off beats scared every time… - Frank Castle

Timely topic. We've gotten in the habit of running bedroom central HVAC unit fan on ON at nights. I always made fun of folks who get used to sleeping with fans, etc. but it seems to have helped my wife a lot. Really started when she went on a multi-month business trip and were in a Residence Inn part of the time. I had long ago begun doing this in hotels to drown out some of the ambient noise and she loved it. That was probably 3 years ago now.... The link from Mark is interesting, and reasonable. May give one of these a go. You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02

https://www.amazon.com/gp/prod...o09_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 I bought one of those a few months back, used it quite a lot. It sure aint cheap though (of course after I bought it, it went on sale for about 40% off on amazon ). I've used it quite a bit, most nights. Even taken it on trips (which help falling asleep in unusual places/beds/couches) Strangely I find louder is better for me, you'd think it would keep you awake but it doesn't. I would experiment making it louder each night and I seemed to sleep better. When I wake up in the night I don't even hear it at first, it takes a few seconds for my ears to kick in. lol That's the only thing that bothers me, I'm tuning out things that go bump in the night. _____________________________________________________ Sliced bread, the greatest thing since the 1911.

I didn't even see that. Great. I was talking about a black friday amazon deals thing, but that's a decent savings. _____________________________________________________ Sliced bread, the greatest thing since the 1911.

We've been using a HoMedics Sound Spa set to "Rain" while we sleep for about fifteen years or so. We're on the second one now (maybe six or seven years old?), but it works well and covers up minor noises. There are five or six other sounds; I don't like the white noise or waterfall. Here's the latest version, but ours included a clock for a few dollars more: http://www.homedics.com/sound-machines/soundspa.html From HoMedics website, the sounds on this are white noise, thunder, ocean, rain, summer night and brook. *** "Aut viam inveniam aut faciam (I will either find a way or make one)." -- Hannibal Barca

Another option might getting a digital recording of something soothing, like the old Environments albums, and playing those on something you already own? Volume controls and sound quality would be dependent on your device.

Mine is a old Homemedics. It does a few different sounds. I have it on the summer night I believe but I can't hear the crickets anymore. To me now it just kind sounds like a old analog tv after the station signs off. Old people will understand that one. _______________________________________________________ And no, junior not being able to hold still for 5 seconds is not a disability.

Up until about 6 months ago I had to have the TV on to asleep. Man, that was hard to break but now I sleep much better (when the kids aren’t waking us up every couple of hours). ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. I used one of THESE for a couple years back when I was married and had trouble sleeping. It is just white noise, nothing repetitive or annoying. The volume and pitch are adjustable by turning the top portion of it. It helped but then I got divorced and started sleeping great so I threw it away. --------------------------------------- Life Member NRA “If you realize that all things change, there is nothing you will try to hold on to. After using one of these a buddy found that he used the “high” setting 99% of the time. As a result I bough the single speed version here for $20 less than the 2 speed version. All reports are that it is equivilant to the high setting on the dual speed. Success always occurs in private, and failure in full view. Complacency sucks…
