What was your favorite childhood breakfast?
No mention of Livermush or scrapple?
I had Livermush in western North Cackalacky and scrapple in Pennsylvania a few times and liked them both with Texas Pete (louisana style hot
sauce.).

(You know, the one the hildabeast carries in her purse while pandering.)

I seem to recall discussing this once or twice in the past...

In my case, it's the quintessential NJ breakfast delicacy - the pork roll, egg and cheese sandwich. On a hard roll. With salt, pepper and ketchup.

Some know it as taylor ham, rather than pork roll. Same thing. Still have one at least once a month, but rarely make them at home nowadays.
If I kept pork roll in the house, we'd go through several pounds a week!

Probably would have to say Mom’s silver dollar pancakes. I grew up not realizing that most people made much larger pancakes than she does. Small size, with crispy edges thanks to the Crisco she fries them in - delicious! Butter only, no syrup needed.
Now that I’m older, I always dive in for her cream-chipped-beef on toast or biscuits, AKA SOS. It’s frankly awesome!
My wife is an excellent cook, but tries to stay away from fat as much as she can, so uses cooking spray rather than Crisco, and that makes all the difference in pancakes.

Where I grew up SOS was chipped beef on toast

Yeah, "shit on a shingle" is creamed chipped beef on toast. I've never heard of it being used to refer to biscuits and gravy before, although the base concept is somewhat similar (both consisting of chunks of meat in a white sauce over top of bread).

When your are 10 years old in the early 70's and your best friends Dad calls it shit on the shingle and you have never had or even heard of it, the name kind of sticks with you. Smile

My mom and my best friends mom would make “Egyptian Eyes” which was toast put in a skillet with a hole cut out of the center with a biscuit cutter and in that hole was put one cracked egg so it would fry up in the toast surrounding it.
Fun breakfast.

OH gosh yes! It's even better when it's Eggs Nova Scotia, which is smoked salmon instead of a piece of Canadian Bacon.

I do believe I'll make this for dinner this evening, if not tomorrows breakfast.

We had very few store bought products, Mom cooked, baked from scratch, canned and froze for storage most of what we ate.

Saturday breakfast was the exception, Lucky Charms and The Bugs Bunny and Roadrunner Show FTW. Captain Crunch Berries, Boo Berry, Count Chocula would do in a pinch
