It also looks like he hit that wall making the jump from Captain to Major. A lot of Officer Proficiency Reports can have phrasing and language in them looks "ok" at O1/O2/O3 (2nd Lieutenant, 1st Lieutenant, and Captain) ranks but are death sentences at O4/O5/O6 (Major, Lt. Colonel and Colonel) ranks.

ElToroThere’s a guy in my neighborhood who has a Congressional Medal of Honor for acts performed in Vietnam. Local gun shop made a deal about him in their FB page when they obtained a special MOH engraved rifle for him. But only way I’d know is he has special MOH licenses plates through state of FL. Pretty sure not many sets of those plates are issued and you got to document it with the DMV. I’ve seen him driving around. Never actually gotten to talk to him. I had to research his MOH citation and he did some bad assery a long time ago. If I ever get to meet him I’ll report back but he sounds like a humble guy.

I received an ARCOM about 6 months after I got out, received the orders commendation and the medal, never showed up on my 214. I eventually got around to sending it in and it still took them awhile to revise it.

Same with my final award upon retirement. (Never thought to request an amendment to my DD214; never knew that was possible. Not sure I could even find the order.)
Not having an award on a DD214 under some circumstances is one thing. “Oh, I thought I had received a Bronze Star,” is simply incredible.

This. One might (unlikely, but possible) forget whether there were 3 or 4 Good Conduct awards, but there's no way on God's Green Earth one forgets about something like a Bronze Star.
And no, not even close for me. Totally boring career, best I managed was a Navy Commendation.

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore received a Bronze Star on Friday night for his military service in Afghanistan nearly two decades after he was deployed overseas.
The governor received the belated honor at a private ceremony at the governor’s mansion on Friday, during what The Washington Post reported was an emotional ceremony.
Moore said after the revelation in August that he made an “honest mistake” for not correcting the application. He said, however, that his deputy brigade commander had recommended him for the Bronze Star — and told him to include the award on his application “after confirming with two other senior-level officers that they had also signed off on the commendation...”

Thanks for the follow up. I'd love to see the citation; article lists his eligibility as merely "months in the combat zone putting himself at risk." Which is a horse shit reason.
