jljonesHere is how the media decides their unidentified sources in stories.....
Lt. Lockhart: You must have seen blood trails, drag marks?
Private Joker: It was raining, sir.
Lt. Lockhart: Well that's why God passed the law of probability. Re-write it and give it a happy ending. One killed. Make it a sapper. Or an officer. Which?
Private Joker: Whichever you say.
Lt. Lockhart: Grunts like reading about dead officers.
Private Joker: Okay - an officer. How about a general?

corsairBrit media in general tends to be tabloid/gotcha oriented, very London-centric and takes great glee in tearing down established institutions and organizations. That said, The Times tends to be a right-leaning, more conservative news rag than others. Sounds like a load of bull considering how other soldiers were demonized by the media upon their return will be interesting to see what comes of this.

YogiBearAloha,
I like the story of the gurkhas cutting off the head(s) and bringing them in as proof of enemy KIA because bringing in the entire body was too much humbug.
What ever works for them.

tacfoleyIn the news today we read how the MoD spent $40M in compensation paid out to Iraqis claiming mistreatment by British soldiers, only to find out by a JAG blow-whistler that the accusatements had originally been made against US soldiers, but the litigators had discovered that the British were an easier touch, and had been advised to blame the Brits instead.
Here in yUK the lives and careers of many British soldiers have been blighted by these false accusations, in much the same way as the long-standing complaints made against the military in Northern Ireland - most of which were proven to have been totally without any foundation. One Royal Marine acquaintance of mine was accused of beating up a mouthy paddy at a military roadblock, said paddy having provided the legal authorities with details of the Marine that he had accused. It later transpired that he had obtained the details from the wedding photograph of the Marine, taken in his home town in Ireland - but not before he had pocketed almost $120K from an apologetic MoD.
