Has anyone ever done a helicopter tour? Bringing a friends kid into the city this summer to do the usual tourist things and I'd like to give this a shot. There seem to be a bunch of companies that basically charter helicopters so I don't know if one is really any better than the next.

Thanks for any thoughts!

Maybe thirty years since I've been there, but I was born and raised in the NYC area.

I suggest that you take a look at the Circle Line tours. Boat, not helicopter. Even though I'm a pilot, I would get a lot more enjoyment from the boat tour, compared to helicopter.

Yep. Did one in 2004. Photos here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/...s/72157632908168639/

Recommend a trip to Liberty Island, too.

Boat would be safer. There was a helicopter crash that killed all in 2018.

Personally would feel much safer in a bus or a boat vs a helicopter... possibly easier to walk away from accident. ..... drill sgt.

I’d be picky about who was flying. Did a helicopter tour in Hawaii, and while it was cool, there was a section where the pilot pushed the weather much harder than I ever would have. I would have much preferred missing that part of it. Apparently “get-there-itis” can be a thing with tour operators too.

Take the ferry to Ellis Island and liberty Island from the Battery.

Then take a subway and visit DUMBO and walk Brooklyn Bridge Park, you’ll get a great view of the city.

All the best

It's the best way to see the grand canyon,
I'd do it again in a minute.

Ask if they have an on call list.

Example:
They charge $395.00 for a one hour tour of the area of your choice.

That's for two people.

But they don't want to take two up , they want to take four up .

On a list they call you ninety minutes for a flight but they offer it to you for forty or 60% less to pack the bird .

Maximizing profit.

Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency.

That's one reason why I'll never fly in a civilian helicopter, done it too many times in the military (voluntarily and unvoluntarily) and don't care to ever fly in a helicopter ever again.

I did it in 2007: https://www.flickr.com/photos/...ms/72157632915343483

In 2004 in New Zealand I took a helicopter flight to the Franz Josef and Tasman glaciers. Wow! Snowball fight on a glacier. Photos in this album: https://www.flickr.com/photos/...s/72157632153188945/

With several NYC hekiports shut down, the trips in some cases start in NJ. For the money, better spending it on local land based attractions. The Intriped is great and easy to get to by bus or subway.

For a few years I flew out of Teterboro and Linden. The air traffic is dense.

One of my private pilot students is now a helicopter pilot in the area. He suggested you check out.

He works for this outfit.

I can't recommend one vs the other.

Cheers
