Do it! If I remember correctly, those are pretty expensive though.

The uke is a great way to dip a toe into stringed instruments without dropping a ton of cash.

The ones those ladies are playing are indeed very pricey, buy you can get into a decent sounding Soprano or Tenor uke for $50-75.

I was just about to suggest a starting uke around $150-200 (ie - Kala Tenor) but $75 may work. Smile

I have a Kala Tenor and a Fender Soprano. The Tenor is easier for me to play (big hands) but the Fender has a truer sound.

They are good for your soul. If you don't believe me, ask yourself: have you ever seen an angry man playing a ukulele?

Jake Shimabukuro is amazing with the ukelele. If you haven't seen him, here's a taste:

That was what I had intended on posting, so I’ll have to settle for seconding it. His version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps was amazing.

The popularity of the ukulele is growing--again. Seems it happens every 30-40 years.
I ran into a guy at a church dinner the other night who was wearing a Kamaka Ukulele Hawaiian shirt. We started talking--I bought a tenor Kamaka while working in Honolulu. He said there are a number of ukulele clubs around San Diego.
Unlike other instruments, you can start strumming chords on a uke the first time you go to a group session or workshop. You don't need a Kamaka to have fun and get a decent sound. My brother has enjoyed playing the uke for almost 70 years, and he probably doesn't know more than 10 chords, never picks a tune, just strums.
OTOH there are guys like Jake, Herb Ohta Jr., Daniel Ho who are professionals.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World is a wonderful song that is easy to play.

If you've ever noodled with a guitar, a Uke is super, super easy. I have a tenor that set me back about $150 and pull it out every once and awhile.

Wife bought me a Kala this summer while I'm Cape Canaveral. It's a lot of Uke for the money.
